A fellow Magician reccomended that I wash my silks to get the sizing out of them. He said that they would look less wrinkled when in use. I am talking about using them in a dye tube and TT.
I had ironed my silks yesterday afternoon. But of course coming out of the dye-tube they looked crumpled. Any thoughts? Thanks, Bruce

If your silks are less than 25 years old they probably have never had sizing in them.
The World has changed. (India is a possible exception. It's easy to tell.) Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Ironing should remove the sizing from the silks. If not wash in Wool-lite by hand. Ask your wife she will know more about this than you.
It has been suggested that you let ironed silks set for at least 24 hours before using them in tricks. Per Tommy Wonder! They will wrinkle less. This same question was ask a year ago. Please do a search! |

No doubt, ironing silks improves the look. As to when the silks are ironed, the only advantage of ironing them the day before is the security it could give the performers that one more step is behind them.
Scientifically the only possible benefit would be if static electricity of ironing is not properly dealt with, added time will help some. Tolerating static cling today is not necessary. Back when many of the books on silk magic were written, it was a factor. Silk magic could easily be vary many centuries old and prior to what we think of as civilized Europe. It certainly predates discovery of the New World. The manufacturing process is more modern. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
