Doc,

Being an admirer of you and your magic for a very long time, I would like to start with a question regarding your now famous

Bill in lemon routine.

As you know, the trick itself is indeed a classic, with many performers (including myself) featuring it in their acts.

Over the years, there have been many many methods to accomplish this effect, and just as many ways to perform it. Even the Mark Wilson Course in Magic has a version.

I like your presentation because it involves several audience members, flows very nicely, seems believable, and finishes clean.

I'm curious to know why you chose this particular effect as your closer, and...when you put this routine together, what were some of the variables that influenced the way you came about structuring this routine and its presentation? Smile

First of all, let’s give credit where credit is due. It is Steve Spill’s version... he GRACIOUSLY gave me the routine 20 years ago... and I am not at all sure that he isn’t a little pissed that I tipped it... yes the presentation aspect has my fingerprints all over it, but the mechanics and thinking behind it is all Steve.

Thank you buddy...

It isn’t actually my closer... it is in my closing set, ...but I follow that with Fusillade and then the $100 card on the ceiling.

I love the version because it plays so broad... when I finish the trick the crowd is huge and attentive... I think it is because I involve a lot of people in the routine... everyone has a part! Even the general audience...

Did I answer the questions.?

Hi,

Is it not the bill in lemon routine Steve published in "Spill Bar and Grill" As I live in the UK I have only ever seen you perform on a video sold by Davenports of your lecture there. But the bill in lemon was not one of these.

As with many professionals, Steve has several different methods to perform the bill in lemon.

His published version is one of a couple of different methods.

When I did Davenports in “94 I didn’t talk about that effect.

To PB Jones, and anyone else who hasn’t seen Doc perform, Visit
http://www.doceason.com
and get his 3 bar magic videos. They are each absolutely brilliant, and tape 2 has Bill in Lemon.

I’m sure modesty prevented Doc Saying that.
