I will just chime in and say that some of Paul's more recent productions have been more interesting and I think that there has been some really positive work from him since the long-ago issues I mentioned in that long-ago post.
Also -- I have been a fan of Harry Lorayne since I was a child and a customer since I became an adult. Paul's items in BEST OF FRIENDS 3 are interesting and, to my eyes, seem superior to some of his earlier work. The fact that I think PG's writing is derivative of Harry Lorayne's is simply one man's opinion. Your mileage may vary. At least I've read their work. As for my "reviews" -- all I can do is be honest and thoughtful. Just like when I write reviews for Genii, I don't expect everyone to agree with every conclusion I reach. I would simply hope that Harry and others here will allow their judgement of me as a person and as a magician to be based on a larger consideration than whether they agree or disagree with something written in a post on a message board several years ago when the issues were more current and in context. All the best, JMT |

Hey Joe: Agreeing or disagreeing with what you wrote, sort of out of the blue, in a thread that had nothing to do with me, was a pretty definite negative statement. You talked about originality and then said "Just as in Lorayne's work." That is not particularly thoughtful, it's an accusation. Which is fine, or would be if you would list whatever it is you're talking about. Let's talk about whatever facts are behind that statement. This has nothing to do with you "as a person", or even as a "reviewer." You're obviously entitled to your opinions, your "honesty and thoughtfulness." And, yes, you are a supporter and I thank you for that. You'll have to forgive me for "backing up" a bit when I read that "originality" remark. No big deal. Best - HARRY LORAYNE.

As I recall, my tangential observation about "originality" as it applied to you was based on a then-recent article by Jon Racherbaumer which I know you're familiar with. I wasn't suggesting that I necessarily agreed with everything in that article; I merely stated that some people (i.e., Racherbaumer) still raised the question. I wasn't party to all of the things that surrounded those conflicts, but I was aware that they existed... hence, my comment.
My comments about Paul, on the other hand, were based on firsthand experience with the facts as they occurred on TSD at that time and which were well documented there -- including my persistent defense of him until the bitter end. Again, that is all in a fairly distant past in "internet time." Lots of water has gone under that bridge and I am more than happy to leave it there. I always enjoy your work, and I was intrigued with some of Paul's contributions to BEST OF FRIENDS 3. None of us today is the same person that we were four years ago. I appreciate that you understand and that you consider this "no big deal." I would welcome the chance to sit with you and/or Paul and enjoy a drink at a convention or any other event, my treat. All best, JMT |

Dear Joe,
Have a drink? Amen to that! I'm more than happy to have a drink with you; maybe at FFFF next year? I'm lecturing for Obie in 2008. Glad you enjoyed my stuff in BOF III. Paul Gordon |
