Hi Guys,
PK is one area of magic/mentalism that I have a passion for - I think it is one of the most realistic, and powerful forms of magic there is. Metal bending, moving objects, dare I say even floating objects always gets fantastic reactions if performed well. I am in the process of trying to come up with different and varied ways of showing off this 'power' - I enjoy dramatic and offbeat presentations, and would love to know what others think of this. Effects such as: For Andruzzi Boiling/freezing water Lighting/extinguishing candles/Bulbs Pk touches.... I would love to know what everyone thinks, and to add to this! Si |

OOO Si, you need to peek into the world of the Bizarre every now and then, a few of those topics have been whirled over our heads three or four times at midnight, with a dead chicken on the ...wait, anyway check the Bizarre section, and search about, I knwo we were all talking about candle methods a while back, and PK comes up regularly, as well as pulse, etc.

Thank you KAy, I will!! Ah, need a strong spirit to delve into the Bizarre forum... may not make it out...
I would still love to know what everyone thinks, and hopefully get the creative juices flowing for the non-bizarrists! Si |

Personally I love effects with time or watches as many people have this esoteric view of time and manipulation of time. egs: watch stopping (Osterlind, Jermay presentation is awesome from Building Blocks), changing time (own watch or borrowed watch, 3 methods - Osterlind's, Banacek's and futour), matching time on 2 watches randomly set (Barrie Ricahrdson), predict thought of time (4 methods - Barrie Richardson, Osterlind, Kuffs, Watch n Wear), Reset correct time on borrowed watch (Barrie Richardson), making a watch hand visibly move (Kuffs), etc. Also received a free DVD with an order from Alakazam once of about 25 quick ideas with loops. Some great applications on this!
Cheers, Al

I have heard of the boiling freezing water effect, but does anyone know if extensive gimmickry is required?

A great method for that is in Sean Field's book, Explicit Content. WEll worth a look.
Al. agreed on the watch routines - something extremely powerful about affecting someone's watch. Si |

There is a routine in a book, Magic Digest, where you take a metal "cricket" that clicks when you press it. It can be put under a cup and you cause it to click out answers to questions. Very strong reactions from the lay audience and very convincing. This can be done under any conditions and there are no attachments so you are always clean. There is also the old stopping the pulse effect. It is also described in that book. I have done that on stage with a volunteer doctor or nurse from the audience counting the pulse out loud. I'm not sure which creates the bigger impact on the audience, the fact that you stop your pulse at will or the look on the nurse's face when the pulse stops.

The Haunted Key effect seems like it could naturally fit with a PK routine. There's also something called "Polter," - apparently a gimmick for making things fall off of shelves in rooms you're not in - has received mixed reviews (some hate it, some love it), but it might be useful to you. Do a Café search for threads talking about it (I don't own it myself, so I can't give you much more information about the effect).

I just want to know if extensive gimmickry is required?

Discjockey:
If you're referring to the Polter, I really couldn't tell you. Word has it that you can make the gimmick for pennies, so there obviously is one, but when specs investigate the fallen object, there's nothing to be found. Again, I don't own Polter, so I have no idea how accurate the above is. Were you asking about Polter? -- Jake

Try the effect with the ping pong ball in David Hoys "Bold and Subtle." Ping pong balls rolls around table top on it's on. Really nice if you don't mind dealing with "critters." That's all I'll say. PM me for the tip.

The specs will find something. It is not as clean as the advertising would have you believe. It's not really that good.

That's a shame. It sounded like it had such promise.

I enjoyed polter. I think its worth a look. However - it's not a pk effect. It's a ghost effect!
