Hey guys! I been working on a convincing control that brings the selected card to the top of the deck as opposed to the bottom. I was wondering are there many convincing controls to the top, and if so where can they be found? I would like to compare mine with them.

How about the losing control?
not really the same thing, I suppose but perhaps in the same genre?

Hmm.. losing control, ego slip, any merlin/bedwell/gerard type move leaving the card outjogged, any double lift / top change control leaving the card outjogged, etc
the list goes on for miles, anything specific about your handling that we can narrow the search down with? |

Maybe I said it wrong.. I was talking about ed marlos convincing control..his brings the selected card to the bottom.. the one I been working on is the same method persay but brings it to the top..just wondering if there is anything that resembles ed marlos control but rather then controlling it to the bottom it controls it to the top

If you are working from a spread then how about Marlo's Moveable Card Pass? It is not a pass in the conventional sense as there's no transferring of packets. The cards are spread face down in the hands, one is touched/selected, you can raise and separate your hands to show the spectator his selection, then in the action of closing the spread the card is controlled to the top. It might fit the bill. I used to do it all the time (can't for the life of me remember where I learnt it from though).

Checkout ackerman advance card control volume 3 or 4, he goes thru all convincing control out there almost all good ones and he also explains convincing control to the top. Ihope that helps,or check out Marlo's early work he has many good ideas with convincing control.

Weapon, you should look into Troy Hoosier's work. He has something called Slip Stream that does use the mechanic of the convincing control to bring a card near the top or the top. I do not exactly remember the handling but you should look it up. It's in the dvd series he did with Bob Kohler.

Guys, he's not exactly asking for random controls to the top. Flip flop plop in no way resembles the Convincing Control visually. He's checking to see if someone has come up with a control to the top that visually looks like the Convincing Control.
Weapon, is this close to what you mean by the visuals of your version: cards are spread in hands, one is chosen by touching the back or something along those lines, rh raises 1/2 the spread up, with chosen card on the face, lh comes up to meet rh and gesture at the card, cards are lowered and chosen card (!) is outjogged, cards are squared up and outjogged card is pushed flush.

^ The Moveable Card Pass I suggested earlier looks like and does just that near enough, perhaps without the outjogged card but that could be added easily enough I suppose

What's wrong with just controling the card from the bottom to the top with either a shuffle or a cut, that is what I see a lot of people including myself doing should they need it there. I also think that it is easier to do it that way if you know a control and the convincing control as opposed to learning a new move.

^ I guess getting it straight to the top first time simply reduces the number of controls... better to do away with a second control if the objective can be achieved with one

It must be there. There are some tricks where it's fine to shuffle or cut to control, and there are others where that line of thinking detracts from the trick overall. It's situational & ultimately up to the performer's aesthetic and theatrical reasoning.

To answer the question...the moveable card pass can be found in mint vol 2. it is similar to the allerton move but used in a spread fashion.
