Good Day Fellow Magis,
Sorry if this post has appeared elsewhere. Without the earch function, I am unable to search for it. I will post it here, and hopefully will receive a great response. I am in the proccess of tinkering around withdoves and would like to add them into my manipulation act. I'd like to have a whole segmewnt dedicated to that. I've read all about the doves, bought videos, props, etc. but need to purchase an outfit. If anyone can lead me in the direction of having a dove tux made for me. I'd like one with tails, as I have Frewin's DVDs also. Pretty much does anyone knonw of someone who specializes in making the dove tux. I'd have no problem flying somewhere to get measurements taken, etc. I live in the NY /NJ area. So, if anyone knows someone in that area, I"d appreciate it. Haas

You get everything to go out and do a dove act instantly. Of course there is the practice and rehearsal process. And I do not know it the music is included. You mentioned you have some videos of Dove magic. Tony Clark tells how to alter clothing and so does many books on Dove magic. This you will take to your own local tailor and work with him to make you a custom suit. Which if you do will find out that custom suits cost in $400 and up, but you will get the many fittings you need to get it just right. There was a retired magician that was a tailor, Ramon Galindo did a parakeet act in and has made 2 video on the subject. See them here: http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=364 and here: http://www.stevensmagic.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=365 He said he still does custom work for magicians only. That was a few years ago, so you will have to contact him. He does have a site on the net here: http://users4.ev1.net/~rgalindo/web/ramon.html That is all I have ever heard of, maybe someone else knows a professional tailor that knows how to custom make or alter magicaians clothing. |

Have you considere not using tails, I for one am against the use of tails. Magicians only use them because the father of modern magic Robert Houdin wore them. This is what made him different. We should wear clothes more applicable to our time. OR go for a very extrem costume. I appreciate I'm getting slioghtly off topic, but it is certainly an option you could consider.

I don't think magicians "only" use them because Houdin wore them. I'm sure half of the dove workers didn't even know he wore them.
Dove tails are not only elegant, but are also convenient. And as for our time, people still wear tails with their tux's all the time. |

Tails are still proper evening wear for "white tie". Many people do not have the opportunity to wear them at true formal affairs and simply are unfamiliar with them. "Black tie" is more casual but still more formal than just a business suit. Not long ago Lucy and I were shocked to find that the social editor of a newspaper did not know the difference. In fact, she even thought that top hats went with black tie. Perhaps that comes from eating at too many fast food joints and TV dinners! Elegance is not something in the mall.
Ten minutes at the library will solve a lot of the formal dress questions. (I don't recommend getting that information from the minimum wage clerk at the tux rental.) I also don't know a rule that says magic can only be done after six and in tails. Just don't embarrasss the talent buyer. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Thanks Dave....I contacted her. Awaiting a response.
As for the tail issue, I woul like tails on the dove outfit I am preparing, for one simple reason. I plan on doing a dove to silk, and it's just the easiest way to accomplish this effect. Iam open for suggestions, and I appreciate all the help everyone has given me. Thanks so much. Haas

You can also use the tails in ditching some items to it, watch Gen. Grants video of "Making a living by stealing... Doves of course 1 & 2" he has a lecture there of what you can do with the tails of your tux.
thanks!

Wow that is a very good deal!
Especialy the fact that everything is made for you! And also that a normal tux w/ a tail could run around 500+ for a reg one. |
