My personal favorites are Lee Asher's Diving Board Double and the One-Handed Erdnase Shift.

A Triple Charlier and a One-Handed Shuffle never fails to impress people from my experience. I am still working on the hot shot cut though.

Others may feel differently, but from my experience, the players I deal to seem to be more impressed by the card flying and my catching it than the cut itself on the hotshot cut.
One handed fans (especially dual one-handed fans) also get good responses. There's also the scissor cut, the Around-the-world,and a plethora of card spinning/shooting moves.. But of the one handed moves I know, the one-handed shuffle gets the best responses, even though many other moves are harder. MXRay |

I always shoot the card up the air with my ring finger.
Card flies better, takes less time and looks even better (at least to me). |

Hi Memory-Jah,
I don't know if you just overlooked the word Erdnase, or maybe you are not familiar with it. S.W. Erdnase is the author of Expert at the Card Table. This is kinda like the Bible of card magic and cheating techniques. Along the lines of one-handed flourishes also check out Aaron Fisher's One handed Pop Out Move. All the best, Kranzo

Hi again Kranzo
I am familiar with Erdnase, I even own the book, even if I don't know every move described in there anymore. Was there a one handed pass? Because of the word Erdnase in the one handed pass I was confused. The only one handed pass I know is the one Richard Turner does on his "Cheat" dvd. So I wonder if it is the same?

Depending on what edition of Expert you have, it could be on a few different page numbers. There's a chapter on the shift, that's just called "Shifts" although I believe it's labeled in the book as "Legerdemain". The S.W. Erdnase shift is one of the first in the chapter, and the actual motion of the packets is just the bottom half goes to the top.
A popular, yet difficult flourish among people who do that kind of thing is the Buck Twins' take on the move, called the "Revolution Erdnase". Which is the SWE shift but with a spin in the packet, and now there are variations where you send the packet flying. I'm not sure whether KC was talking about the original shift, or the Rev E, but they're both pretty cool. If you don't own "Expert at the card table" you can probably find the Dover edition for about 10 bucks at your local magic shop. |
