There can't be THAT many magicians in the world! Where are you getting your statistics, please? What are your sampling methods and how are you analyzing your samples? What methods are you using for statistical corrections and how are you controlling for confounding variables in your methodology? In other words - how did you come up with those numbers? We all know where he pulled those figures out of. But the Café has rules, and he is not allowed to say, and if he did it would come out something like this: "Out of my ***." |

I responded to that post a few times. It still makes me chuckle to myself. Either he is right and almost everyone I know is a magician, or he is wrong. Well I only know a very small handfull of magicians.

However, for our craft to be able to offer something more than mere execution of known forms and (empty) ritualistic offerings of things that have not fooled anyone in generations (back palming and manipulation in general IMHO) we need to have our secrets intact. For the audience, our methods need to be secret and preferably unthinkable. Among magicians we can enjoy and respect surprised. For our audiences we need something more than mere surprise. To elicit that feeling of magic we use decepetion.
