I do closeup magic, but am fascinated and highly interested in learning more stage card manipulation. I have one of the Mcbride videos, and plan on purchasing the other two in the near future. I was wondering if there were anymore VIDEO materials out there that cover this topic?

There are many books that may also help you out. Jeff mentions some on Vol. 2 I believe. Routined Manipulation part 1&2 are good. I don't think there are any more videos quite like McBrides though. His are the best.

As far as stage card manipulation goes, it's really hard to match those McBride videos. If you get all three you'll have just about everything that's ever been done (like I said, just about). The second and third are my favourite though because the first is more flourishes and basics. The second two are the serious productions, though the first IS great to have.

So, you think that the McBride Card Manipulation Series is the very best way for a beginner to start in this field?

Michelle Labonte wrote: Michelle, I don't qualify as a card manipulator, but my friends who are speak highly of the McBride videos. Whether they are "the very best way" depends... Some people find it easier (or just plain prefer) to learn from books. Some say that with videos, one learns not only the effect, but the demonstrator's style and mannerisms as well -- which can inadvertently inhibit the development of one's own style and mannerisms. I've found McBride's other manipulation video series helpful (and challenging!), but when I practice, I strive to make the effect mine, and rather than a picture-perfect imitation of what I saw in the video. I hope that's of some use... Magic Tim |
