I personally use the coin in bottle effect out of "Carneycopia'. It's not really as impromptu as coin through can but is more of a full routine. Also the coin going through the side of the bottle is a very visual effect. When done right you will have people swear they saw it melt through the bottle.

I get great reactions from both.
Sinful seems to get good reactions, but I do not think it is as croud friendly as coin thru bottle (This is from my own version, I never got the video but pretty much saw how it was done v.i.a. the clip on the ellusionist website). Coin thru bottle I really really like, I get the spectator to hold the bottle, and then just slam the coin through. Its very visual and is always a stunner. On the downside, its not completely impromptu like sinful (at least, the folding-coin version isn't, obviously). I think sinful probably gets slightly better reactions, but I personally think that coin thru bottle is a better trick. |

I've been using Johnny Thompson's handling for Coin in the Bottle for quite some time...it is a killer effect. Gets a great response every time I do it...

I use an 8 oz. Coke bottle for coin in bottle. Works just as well as a big bottle, at about half the weight and size. Much easier to carry around. And older people get nostalgic about the old bottle. Coke still makes them, though you'll have to go to a distributor to find them. Or you can buy an old one on eBay.

I've been performing Coin in Bottle for many, many years and it never fails to get a good reaction. However, I just recently decided to replace it with Prohibition. The few times I've performed Prohibition, it kills them. Very much impressed with Prohibition.

I agree, Prohibition is very clean, very visual and gives the same sound effect as coin in bottle.
Keep the bottle, whatever routine you do, in your back pocket if it's free. Works well for me.

Completely agree on Prohibition. Beautiful effect, easy to learn and leaves people scratching their heads. Wonderful to be able to hand people the bottle with the cap inside when finished and just walk away. DVD is very clear in the handling.

Coin in Bottle
Simply because when working you'll find empty bottles around, and you can borrow a coin. I've never had the pleasure of finding a can at a gig. Also in accordance to good magic theory coin in bottle is better in that the magic happens in their hands (they hold the bottle), also the visualness of glass. None of the moves are that hard, and all switches are so so clean that they're never even suspected. I've never had any one suspect the use of a dupe. Learn both, but you'll find yourself putting more coins into bottles than cans. Paul |
