The Magician shuffles a pack of cards, showing the faces and the backs. One card is selected, remembered and returned to the pack. The Magician then names and locates the card, with ease (and a little help from a detective card!) When the rest of the cards are spread out, ALL THE FACES ARE BLANK AND EVERYTHING CAN BE EXAMINED!!
Any information or reviews for this? Found here http://www.internationalmagic.com/acatalog/Card_Tricks.html |

Sounds like Dean Dill's Blizzard with a different presentation.
Still with the Chinese circus

This trick works with a different method than Blizzard and like Blizzard is a serious fooler. I saw it recently and it was very convincing.

Also worth noting that this was first released way back in the early 70's.

This is a favourite of the bald guy who dems in International Magic, London.
Very clean, impactful and best of all easy to do. |

I don't think Emerson & West sold this. I have a vague recollection that it was REPRO Magic who first released it. There were two names on it as the creators - Horace Bennet & Alan Alan.

Hi Julie - That does sound right. What we need to now know is why and when did Alan Alan come into the arena? I have to assume he added something to the handling?
This from Cards by Martin web site: PALEFACE CARDS: (A. Alan / H. Bennett) - A "gambling type routine" with a surprise ending. After shuffling the cards face and back up, you explain (?) how marked cards are used. To illustrate one way they are used - one card is selected and half of the deck is spread on the table. To illustrate, you then remove a card from your face up half of the deck and put it into the tabled spread. You turn your back while the person returns his card to the spread and the deck is reassembled. After some by-play the whole deck is ribbon spread face up on the table and IT IS ALL BLANK, except for the selected card. All can be examined. This is an excellent routine. I closed my Castle, close-up act with this funny bit.

'Paleface Cards' was indeed the work of Horace E Bennett and Alan Alan.
The version I have was released by Harry Stanley's 'Unique Magic Studio' London W1. Although the instructions are undated, the Alf Cooke playing cards (and case) I have suggests it was released in the 1960's. The Repro version was called 'Triple Chance' - a slightly different routine in that the selected card initially turned face up, then the rest of the pack turned blank before finally showing the selected card had a different back. It was a favourite 'dem' item of Geoff Maltby. The later version of the Repro effect was not supplied with the card clip (as in Paleface Cards and the earlier 'Triple Chance' effect). This made the handling much less cleaner than it's predecessor.

Bought this 5 years ago after a demo by the bald guy.
fooled me badly (Auckland is a fair way from London, so not been back in a while) great in right circumstances but not carried in my normal walkaround act. good, old ideas often get repackaged these days! |

'Repackaged'
Or in other words, 'ripped off'. If only there were dealers around these days with the honesty and integrity of Ken Brooke!

You can see Art Emerson doing this his lecture some years back, on you tube.
