I used to be active with online IBM Ring 2100. I left some time ago due to the insults and back-biting that littered the site then. I was surprised and saddened to read in the current Linking Ring of the death of one of the site's most prolific members. A young magic devotee who was often thrust...willingly and unwillingly... into the center of these verbal bouts...22-year-old "Jamie G.".
Jamie was an outspoken...sometimes too outspoken... and quite often misunderstood... dedicated magic enthusiast. As I understand it, he had kidney issues his entire life, resulting in his untimely death. But there was nothing wrong with this young man's heart or magical soul. He was constantly creating new and imaginative magic ideas and giving them away to his IBM peers and friends. He consistently encouraged new practitioners to the art and slammed those who wasted our online time nitpicking insignificant details that had little to do with magic. As ill and immobile as he was, Jamie often had the grandest dreams among us. Perhaps he'll finally achieve those dreams in the next realm. I truly hope that someone was available to perform the Broken Wand Ceremony for this incredible lost compeer. Rest gently, Jamie. You made your mark. Skip

I corresponded for some time with Jamie and then we fell out of touch. I am truly, truly sorry to hear of his passing. With sorrow,
Brad Burt

Skip,
You'll be glad to hear that after Jamie's passing, nearly 200 posts of condolences were sent via Ring 2100. These were compiled by his friend Brad Toulouse and presented to Jamie's mother at the funeral.
No trees were killed in the making of this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

22! He was older than me and I'm 31. I was shocked when I heard about Jamie too. As an old friend, I understand what you mean Skip. He was often misunderstood. I was just recently talking to another friend who used to live in Windsor as well. Jamie was definately outspoken. You always knew where you stood with him.

Bill, I stand corrected. I thought the The Linking Ring Obit placed his age at 22...and now I can't find that issue amidst my rehearsal room clutter to verify. I'm now told that he was over 30. Having never met him outside of Ring 2100, I did't really know. A minor point...but an important one.
