I know all books reveal methods for accomplishing effects. However, I’m looking for suggestion of wbooks for hich that is a main focus. Mind, Myth & Magick is a good example
I’ve also read Stunners Plus, Anneman, Corinda, Prism. What am I missing? |

Try checking out Barrie Richardson's Theater of the Mind (1 & 2), Bob cassidy's The Artful Mentalism of Bob Cassidy, and Mentalism, Inc. by Chuck Hickok.

M.I.N.D. and Syzygy-The First Five Volumes by Lee Earle, as well as The Jinx, I'd also add Richard Osterlind as well.
Personally I rate Richard and Bob Cassidy as high on my personal "food chain" simply because of their lack of reliance of "props" to get the job done. |

Your second post in one year. The first post trying to hype and sell your book Devious Deceptions.
The second post asking for methods, methods and yet more methods. Are you a mentalist,an amateur magician or a simple curious that jumped on the bandwagon of the many people trying to discover the fraternity's secrets simply because some Derren Brown clone has fooled them badly? |

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
To Psidrold: Sorry if my first response was viewed as hype, but I was responding to the pulse stop trick, for which I think I have a unique twist. I even apologized in case it was viewed as hype. I’ll be more careful about the rules. My background: I wrote a book on mentalism in the seventies (still in print, but I won’t mention the name). I was a professional close up magician years and years ago. I drifted a way from magic and got back into it as a hobbyist a few ago. I consider myself an inventor and no longer a performer. I’m trying to catch up on the best books that will fill in my 15 or so year gap in what’s been going on in mentalism. As an inventor, “effect/method” is important for me. Now, having said all that, please don’t consider this hype, but according to Joshua Jay, he’s going to publish an effect of mine in the June issue of MAGIC (I get nothing out of this by the way) that is purely mental and I hope will be very useful to the mentalism community. |

OK Roy...You've convinced me! Filling in a 15 year gap is not a sin. Especially if you are looking to see that you are not simply "Re-inventing" something that you've missed. Lots of stuff has come out in the last decade.
Good Luck! Dave

To fill a 15 year gap, you would have to check out the work of Becker and Earle

What am I missing? Not much. I would say methods have not changed much in the last 15 years - only different ways of presenting them. |

Ok guys, here's what I did. I just bought Syzygy, Mii.n.d., The ARtful Mentalism of Bob Cassidy and Theatre of the Mind. Then my credit card exploded. Now I plan to cocoon myself in bed and read for a month. Thanks for all the suggestions.
BTW, my real name is Steve Skomp and that’s the name that will be listed in MAGIC if it makes the June issues as Joshua Jay suggested. I use Roy Hobbs as a pseudonym. I think I’ll try and change that over to my real name if there is a way of doing that. Again, thanks for your suggestions. |

I would highly recommend EMMM and MM by Richard Osterlind. These are simply collections of the worlds strongest mentalism all at your finger tips. Osterlind basically did all the research for you. My advice... GET IT!
