Is such a show/act feasable? Or would it be too compact?
If you need to ask why...I can only refer to my attention span... Play nice now...trying to avoid coming to a Hypno topic and an Escape Artist thread breaks out...or is it Hypno-Hockey?

I think that is pushing it but I've done a 45 minute show. I would do a fast induction (around 5 minutes) and then 25 minutes of your best stuff. Best of luck.

Howzit bruddah, Doug!
I think the time frame would be dependant upon your audience, their expectation, and your skills and ability to hypnotize and entertain within the alloted span. I've done successful 30 minute shows before in both the high school and corporate market. The student market (high school/college crowds) tend to be relatively easy as loads of students will jump at the opportunity to be hypnotized. On the other hand, the successful 30 minute corporate show was successful because of the expectancy of the audience. The company advertised the show weeks before hand which helped immensely and the show went smoothly and time just flew! So I would definitely suggest that you build expectancy through marketing before and even during the show prior to your going on stage. Another tip I can share is to use the shorter time frame to your advantage by stating in your pre-talk that you are only looking for those who go down the quickest and the deepest. This criteria helps the participants to focus intensely during the induction as they know what you are looking for. And don't be afraid to send people back into the audience if they aren't in trance. In fact, by sending someone back early on in the induction (assuming they aren't focusing or showing signs of trance), you establish control and the volunteers know that you are serious about the process. Hope this helps, Doug! |

I would not do a 30 minute show.
it can indeed be done in certian environments as stated above so I won't repete. It is dead on accurate. IF I had to do a 30 minute show I would probably fall back on the HYPNO TRICK stuff. Body magic and pass it off as hypnosis. With the kids you can get good reactions quite quickly, with corporate clients I am quite impressed you were able to get them. The psudo hyp stuff is guaranteed sucess! In my opinion I would go that route. It is also quite impressive when routined together. Often by the end of doing psudo hyp stuff, people actually pass into trance anyhow. Just ask Kreskin.

It's highly do-able. In fact, I've done such a show on more than one occasion and, while I'm not fond of doing them as I really feel cramped for time, a 30-minute show can really stretch you as a performer and as an entertainer.
They work best when you have a couple of people that you have already worked with in the crowd, too... Lee Darrow, C.H.

Thank you Lee. The more I hear and read up on it though the more I'm convinced it doesn't fit my style (or lack of)...I intend to read all I can just to fill my noodle with more encyclopedic info and leave the shows to you guys who can herd a flock. I hope y'all don't mind a knowledgable fan who can keep a secret. If I ever change my mind, I know who to come to.

The reason I avoid 30 minutes shows is because I have to cut the most important part of my act: ME! In a 30 minute show I have to move right into an inductions and the stunts. I know plenty of you will say that I can get my personality over during the stunts (which is true) but I cannot convey me. IE: After a thirty minute show they like 'the hypnotist' after a 45+ minute show they love Kevin.

I regularly do shows where they won't make room for more than 30 minutes, and if I can't do that, I don't get the booking. What would you do? At the Magic Circle a few weeks ago I did a show in ten minutes, which was stretching things even by my standards, but it worked and I got lots of commendation.
