Hey everyone.
I've been approached to create an Instructional Video geered for children. I think its a great idea because there isn't much out there for kids to learn magic that I've seen anyway. Here's the problem, what effects teach? I figure I'll go through some simple palming and coin vanishes (french drop, etc). But what effects are public domain and which are not. So far I've thought about teaching how to make Nesting Papers (hindu papers), Color changing Water (food coloring), Vanishing wand, maybe a couple of things using a Locator Card. Things like that. I know that 7 - 10 yr olds want props. Things that do magic (I know I did). Any ideas for prop magic that may be easy to make that aren't really tied to any one as far as copywrite goes? I've heard people mention stuff in Mark Wilson's book? Thanks for any ideas... --Chris

Not really, you want to put a new product in the market, so getting feedback here is a reasonable idea. I wouldn't stick to just public domain material. I'm sure more magicians like the idea of a product geared towards kids. Ask around and you might get people to submit material to your project.
Jay Sankey did (and maybe still does) a TV show for kids about magic in Canada. He's probably got an idea or two about what to include. You could contact him. And yes, the little darlings forum is probably a good place to contact as well. |
