I've been thinking of different belly stripper iterations and I starting wondering just how a manufacturer could offer generic belly strippers from their web site, having not asked you what you wanted to do with the deck first.
To make a deck of belly strippers that would strip out aces you woiuld cut the belly onto the aces and then cut down the rest of the deck narrow so the bellys would sit proud of the straight cuts. How is a pre made deck going to do this? They don't know what you're doing, and they don't ask on their website. Am I missing something?.......I've searched the Café for a couple of days now, but not found any comment on "generic belly strippers" and just what they might be. |

There are a several ways they can give you "belly strippers" that do what you want. First, they can customize the deck but since you want a generic solution then one method is to create a deck of cards in which the middle is slightly stripped. Put whichever of the cards you care about into a regular deck with a matching back and you can cut to those cards every time. Also, the card you cut to will end up on top of the bottom packet as opposed to a set up in which the cards stick out a bit which would put them on the face of the cut packet.

Thanks David, it is clearer to me now that belly strippers can (but not always) be considered part of a two deck system.
I just cut some bellys onto the ends of a deck that I had already cut bellys on the side of. This thing can do some amazing stuff. I've never read anything about cutting bellys onto the ends of the cards, does anybody know what the name of such a cut might be? They're not end strippers, which are cut as a diagonal across the entire end of the card. As I cut a few decks, I am now seeing just what folks talk about when they talk about how much a belly cut deck can do. It's getting into gambler territory, but is there a fairly comprehensive reference either as a book, or as a DVD that anybody can reccomend on all things strippers? |

I recall that someone(!) put out a two-deck combination a few years back: one was belly-strippers, and the other was the opposite cut, so you could take your necessary cards from one deck and put them into the other, giving you just what you need, Of course, I cannot remember the details, so if anyone remembers these, please PM me!

Lee, for Belly-In's you would use a normal deck as a second deck.
For Belly-Outs, you would use a narrowed deck, shaved on the long side as a second deck. You wouldn't normally ever mix a belly-in deck directly with a belly-out deck. |

How would you extract/strip the desired cards then? You do need the belly-in a belly-out deck. Otherwise it is just a Svengali deck that wouldn't allow you to strip out the deck, only to cut at one of the desired cards. On a side note, I am surprised to see that no manufacturers are selling quality cut bicycle belly strippers. I really don't want to spend $3500 on a Porper machine... |

Hi Enigmo,
The Belly-In is not normally used in a Belly-Out deck, the belly-in card(s) when used in a normal deck function like a short card, as you point out in your post above. You're actually dead on as to how the Belly-In can be used with that statement. It has other uses as well. With the Belly-In stripper (and like the Belly-Out stripper) you would usually only have between 1 and 4 (maybe up to 8) stripped cards mixed in with your narrow or normal deck. You wouldn't normally ever strip out half the deck the way you can with a wedge stripper. Having said the above, you CAN pull a belly-in type of card from a normal deck. The method is difficult, not widely known, and is not that common in magic. It's not a true Belly-In you pull if you use this method with any regularity, but it is similar. By the way, the Line-Lo card cutting system will cut Belly-Outs. It's $100.00 from Hank Lee and well worth the price. It's actually a bargain when you think you can cut Belly-Outs, short cards, side strippers, end strippers, and narrow cards all with the same machine. |

There are some tricks out there that rely on a half and half belly deck. The one I bought was belly in and belly out's and they were cut horribly! I remade the deck with half belly out and half narrow and they work much better now.
You can use narrows with belly out cards. The belly outs have to be made so the the min dimension is less than the narrows. You need a pretty fine cut so people can't readily see it, but it works. Plus, I just haven't found a way to cut belly in cards with a straight blade cutter, and I really can't justify a custom cutting tool.
