The very best ID you can get is the one you make yourself, that way you can control the amount of "stick" you get, and you can use whatever type/brand cards you like best. To make a deck will only cost you about $5...and if you buy the roughing, you can make several decks in one weekend! Give 'em away to friends!

I use the ID from California card co. It is Bicycle Backed and works well for me.

The Ghost Invisible Deck by the Ellusionist -- I second this choice as it's a slick and well made product. But, like others have said, nothing beats creating your own deck

"Do as I did" masks the original handling of the invisible deck pretty well. Paul Green also gave a great lecture at Blackpool this year, getting random, separate spectators to choose firstly colour, then suit, then value of a card. Each spectator was then given the option to change their mind. The prediction from the deck could then be shown, despite them changing their minds (or not!) |

You could also consider by way of introduction my Invisible Deck Handkerchief which comes packaged with Fantasma's Invisible Deck called Paranormal Deck. It is a handkerchief that apparently contains a deck of cards. It appears and sounds solid but when you unroll the hankerchief the deck cannot be seen as it is invisible. You now go into your standard invisible deck routine. I wanted to come up with an alternative introduction for the invisible deck instead of just miming holding a deck and saying "here is an invisible deck..."
Link to video of it in action is here: http://www.fantasmamagic.com/thumbnails/......al.html# Best wishes, Angelo

Angelo, this looks like a wonderful addition to the effect, and good thinking beyond the (already-far-too-over-done) beaten path. The packaging looks great as well, excellent job; I may well be checking this out soon!

Well after some down time, I am gonna do a simple walk around show for a small company party. I recently found my Invisible deck, but not the instructions. If anyone could send me a refresher on how to use this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

When you use the Ghost ID do you have problems with the spectator wanting to see the deck because it is so unusual? Doesn't it just scream, I am special?
Just thinking of getting a deck to play with and then making an ID out of it. If there is this problem, then I might get two so that I can learn a deck switch. Thanks.

This is script for Brainwave, but with a few small changes you could use it for ID. I think that a non-standard-bicycle ID would work great for this application:

I just made up an ID using a flat lacquer. It wasn't Testors since the hobby shop didn't have any. All it takes is a light coat. I probably put on too much, the cards are hard to separate, but I'll work with them a bit and that should help things.
I was going through back issues of EG and ran across a note saying that someone (sorry, don't remember who) had a spectator notice that all of the red cards were even. Has anyone had this happen to them? Also, why aren't the cards matched the way they usually are? Is there a particular advantage to the way suits are matched?

I use a variation of the ID from a routine that I found in Thomas Blackes book "The Little Blacke Book" using a Devils Hank to produce the deck after going through the motions of "throwing" the deck to the spectator and then "catching" it in the Hank. The routine usually gets a good reaction from the crowd.

I have been working with the ID since I've been in magic, and of all the presentations I've used, I seem to get the best reactions this way:
I bring out 2 different colored decks of cards, (one is standard deck and the other is the ID) magician's force the standard deck to the spectator, and leave the ID on the table (or have someone else hold it if I'm on the street). I would then instruct the spectator to open the box, spread through the deck, select any card and place it face up on the stack. After asking if s/he would like to change his/her mind, I'd have him/her cut the deck, leaving the selected card face up. After stressing that the selected card was of the spectator's own free will and that I have been nowhere near the other (Invisible) deck, I would then display the matching card. I LOVE my ID and so have gone through 3 of them so far. ~Cole
