Hey all!
I'm working on a new project and was wondering if there is a good solution... I'd like to find an adhesive to glue ABS plastic/ expanded PVC to wood. The sheets of plastic are 0.125 (or an 1/8-inch thick) and will not exceed "20 x "20... I thought about using countertop adhesive but was worried if it would adhere to the PVC! Any solution would be a blessing! Bryan Gilles |

I have used Elmer's Ultimate for many things. This may be the same type glue as Gorilla Glue. PC7 is another adhesive that works on most anything, but it is a thick paste, good for gap filling. Contact the companies directly with any specific questions.

If you use laminate adhesive, roughen the back side of the ABS.

If you just need a little bit of light duty stuff, I'd say Duco Cement.
If you need a good quantity of medium duty I would suggest Liquid Nails. Or if you need some really heavy duty stuff, I'd definetely say get "J-B Weld".
I like cards.

Be sure to test whichever product you choose on a scrap piece and read the usage directions. Some materials can melt or have other weird reactions.

Bryan,
I would try to 3M spray adhesive. The line comes in many different strengths. It really depends on what kind of bond you need though. So don't just grab the first one you see. I have used the 3M spray line on everything from foam to metal with great results. |

ABS can be difficult to glue to plywood, when you get the factory bonded ABS plywood sheets for building ATA cases it comes glued with some sort of industrial foaming glue which is applied under pressure - it basically won't come off and won't delaminate even if left in the sun etc (which is why the case hardware company I deal with offers a warranty on it). I've seen case builders try to save a few bucks by laminating their own plywood with ABS using contact adhesive and almost every time it comes apart. I've seen a brand new case from an illusion builder in the States on which the ABS had delaminated by the time it got here. However, for light prop building use, contact adhesive (sprayed, not brushed as a preference) will suit fine. You'll need to scuff up the plastic surface first though to provide a "key" for the adhesive.
Chris.
