I've worked in printing and publishing for a long time, so I am quite adept at reading upside down and backwards. I also like mentalist effects.
But I haven't seen any effects that might employ these 'skills' in a good routine.
Any ideas?

This is also a skill of mine, I was doing this at 10. I can recal starting to reads out in class one day only to notice every one was giggleing and realised I was holding the book upside down yet to the shock of the teacher I had read perfectly.
I'm not sure if this abality is common.

Hello Airship:Do you mean starting at the 'period' of an up side down sentence and reading to the beginning of the sentence?
Or do you mean reading the upside down sentence from it's regular beginning to the end at the 'period'?

A blindfold test or demonstration springs to mind. PM me for some blindfold tips...

Just about any way you care to mention. I can even read lead type, which is mirrored, in a tray upside down. Smile

In Ibidem there was a great routine that's related to this discussion. First, the performer writes the numbers 1-9, as he speaks the numbers 1-9. This is repeated with the numbers being written and spoken from 9 to 1.

Not impressive, so far? Next, the performer writes the numbers 1-9, while speaking the numbers 9 through 1. After that, the performer writes the numbers 9 through 1, while speaking the numbers 1 through 9.

For a finish, the performer speaks the numbers 1 through 9, while writing the numbers 9 through 1 upside-down!

There's really no secret to this feat, other than taking the time to practice each step.

"Psychic Sight" has Stanley Jak's routine of "Lightning Forgery" (duplicating a signature upside down while blindfolded).

Out of curiosity, are you left handed? This seems easier for left handed people, I believe.

The late Harry Eng often began his presentations with
feats like those under discussion in this thread.

From my own use, it makes a lot of seemingly impossible peeks possible.

I hadn't thought of using a blindfold. That's a good idea. I've got some books that go into that. I'll have to read up on it.
And no, I'm not left-handed, though my father was and my daughter is. Maybe I've got a recessive gene. Smile
