Since this thread has reared up again...
Goo Gone works GREAT! I actually found it in a spray form and everything just wipes off! Oh...Zezenki... I also eat fire. A little rubber cement on the skin is the least of my worries Gwyd |

Gsidhe,
Yeah, it was the only thread I could search up that dealt with rubber cement. Most of my friends seem to think that as long as I do not inhale rubber cement like some drug addict, I should be fine. I can only hope so. Any more opinions would be much appreciated. |

I just had a thought, <they happen now and then> that if you are doing this several times a day, leave it in place if it is not bothering you until you go to clean it off. Powder it with talc or baby powder, to sut the tack until needed for the next performance, and use the wipe to "freshen the surface" for use.
Then you only need clean it at the end of the day. Also, if you are getting irritation from the application, consider using some of the spray first aid films sold for kids- the name excapes me, or the nu-skin brush on first aid stuff as a base layer/sealer. I cannot be sure it will help, but it will give a sealant layer on the skin before the application of the other stuff! Kay

The cement doesn't bother me at all, just the removal. I can't leave it on as I work outside in these shows, and it collects dust (Starting to look dirty by the time I leave stage). The goo gone works wonders though, and no irritation.
Good suggestions though! Gwyd |

Try gently shaving the area and keep it fuzz-free before applying the rubber cement. Then use that goo gone to take it off. It should come off easier. You can use a make-up remover style cotton pad, put the goo gone in an empty tin with a red cross on it as if it were antiseptic. (two strips of red electrical tape.) Make it look like you are cleansing a wound and you can remove it right in front of your audience.
Rubber cement certainly has harmful chemicals that go into your body. You have to weigh the value of performance against the risk. (Some magicians use gasoline to blow fire balls instead of using Everclear. Bad idea, but it is commonly done. Think: "liver-toxin".) Maybe you could think about saving this trick for special shows to keep the irritation down. OR there may be a medical grade adhesive that could work as well. Autumn
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.
