Okay,
I've solved my flash bill problem through some research on ideas that I got from this forum. Now I have another question. While walking through the audience looking for a bill to use, how do you make it not completely obvious that you're looking for a specific bill(one that will match yours)? Since I'll be burning the bill, I'm considering the old "certain bills have more ink than others.." ploy but I don't really want the audience to know that the bill will actually be burned until it happens. I think I've got a pretty good routine put together but I want to work out all the kinks before performing it. Plus, it will help in my scripting. Thanks for any ideas Howard

You could always ask for a dollar bill and then, when you burn it, say something like, "Aren't you glad I didn't ask you for a twenty?"

As Justin said, if you're looking for a specific denomination they simply ask for it.
Also, in my routine, I never take anything less than a twenty dollar bill. If you borrow and "burn" somebody's one dollar bill, it's no big deal. It's a buck! Who cares? |

Sure, if you want to p*ss them off.

Perhaps you misunderstood my comments. I wasn't suggesting taking a spectators dollar bill and burning it just for fun. I agree with you, all that would do is p*** them off. What I meant was, I ask for a twenty dollar bill or higher when doing my Burnt Bill routine because like I said earlier, a buck is just a buck and not really a big deal. A twenty or higher creates much more interest and apprenhension from the audience and the spectator on stage. |

Thanks for all the responses!! Greatly appreciated.
I have to clarify something, however. What I actually meant was how to borrow a bill from the audience member which closely matches the one that I will switch later. For example, if I use a new style 5 dollar bill as the restored bill(using the corner switch technique) I must borrow a new style 5 dollar bill which pretty much matches the one that I will reproduce. How do I go about finding one that matches closely without seeming to be looking for a particular bill?? I know this is probably trivial to stand up workers but having never performed this type of routine before, it was the major question that popped into my head. Thanks, Howard

Act casual and if necessary, keep the bill away from the person who lent it. People on the other side of the room aren't going to know what they gave you. You guys have it easy! I'm in Australia and all our money is plastic and of different (bright) colours. So switch out for the wrong bill would be a disaster! |

Well, if it's a large enough crowd in a largh enough room, just borrow the next best thing and avoid making mention (wheven borrowing it) what your actually borrowing!

Have an old style bill in one pocket to start out with and a new style bill in the other. That way when you borrow the bill, you can use "that" type of bill cause you have one of each in your own pocket.
