Hey guys. Seriously considering Daniel Summers' "Compressed" for some corporate shows. I know it's a great looking piece, but are there any caveats/warnings/suggestions anyone might have about any aspects of the prop/performance/transportation? Any information would be appreciated. If it is of a sensative nature feel free to pm me. Thanks!

Yes it is different from Shrink Boy, despite the obvious similarities in effect. Those wishing to build Shrink Boy should discuss this with Daniel Summers first, would be my suggestion. That way you'll understand what lines you shouldn't cross before you attempt to build the prop. This has been discussed before here on the Café.
The Bill Smith (Summers) Compressed is a spectacular looking prop, I saw one recently at the studio of one of my clients and was very imprpessed. Chris.

Personally I like Owen Redwine's version of Daniel's compressed, Owen is the other authorised builder besides Bill for Summer's original illusions. It doesn't' really break down as far as a prop, its like wheeling around a refrigerator. You should see about gettin in touch with Owen, he builds imaculate props, a real pro and kind of underground secret. a way cool guy too...

Mine breaks down into two cases and sets up in about 20-25 min. Great illusion and extremely deceptive. Only caveat is that you cannot really do it surrounded But the side angles are quite good.
Hope that helps. s |

I have been performing Compressed for about 4 years now. It is a wonderful prop. The method is unlike anything else in my show. That is always a plus.
Although it can't be performed surrounded, it is easily accomplished on a thrust stage. My prop was built by Owen Redwine. Although it does break down into 2 cases, the set-up is a bit tedious. I would recommend leaving it in one piece and getting a case that holds the entire prop. Daniel is a wonderful designer. Ray |

If you are interested in performing this illusion surrounded you can have one built that will enable you to do so. I've never seen one of Owen Redwines but I did see one built by Bill Smith. VERY NICE!

I have seen the "Compressed Illusion" performed several times and "played" with one for a day. It is an awsome piece of magic! Dan Summers has created many incredible illusions... I have seen three authorized versions, all built by Bill Smith(He delivers on time and produces high quality pieces). I have also seen a knock off; there is no comparing an authorized version with a knock off. The knock off was three times as big and looked like you could fit a 400 pound man in the illusion( no disrespect to 400 pound men). Purchase from an authorized builder...there is a huge difference.

Well said James,
The first few times I saw this effect I only saw knock offs and thought the entire effect was terrible. It didn't impress the audiences I attended either. Later I saw the original model and WOW. Total difference! It had me fooled as I had a different method in mind based on the knock offs. Its on my " gotta get one list" but I'm afraid that list is getting a lot longer these days....LOL. Oh well... maybe someday. Best, Tim |

Thanks for clearing that up Bill! Also, do you have any discounts for the financially challenged among us here? It's ok, don't answer that...
