Does anyone offer credit card billing to your customers? Do you think that it increases yours sales and/or upsells? I had a company called to offer me this service. Thanks.

I offer credit card payment through PayPal. Many people do seem "eager" to pay by this method. But I can not attibute this payment method to more sales.

Of those who do offer CC payment as an option. Who do you use? And what is the cost? I've looked into this, and the costs seem quite high if you want to be able to take credit information offline. There is a monthly charge, plus a percentage per transaction. I couldn't get the price at point that made sense to me.
But, maybe someone out there knows of a great plan being offered. Scott .

The best plan I know of is offered through Costco. My wife uses it for her business and I think the rate runs at 2% with no monthly fee. You do however need the business membership which costs a bit more.

CC can be EXPENSIVE. Besides a percentage of the charge, they often have a transaction fee, a machine rental, and a monthly fee. The deal Payne has with Costco looks good, and I will check it out.
I have found that with "low volume" CC sales, it is easier and cheaper to go with PayPal. Still, PayPal takes a hunk too, (but is the cheapest I have found for "low volume" - $0.30 transaction fee,1.9% to 2.9% of the charge, no monthly fee, no machine rental) so I always like checks and cash, but sometimes the client really wants to pay via CC, and I do not want to lose them! |

When I advertised that I could accepting cards (for pre-orders) every now and then after the show, with no warning, I'd get a client (with no cash and no checkbook in hand) saying 'here's my card'. No chance to authorize then-and-there, and what if the charge was declined?
I suppose I could have inserted something in my sales pitch about 'in advance', but by the time it became too annoying I had given up - my bank raised the fees too high, and the wave of better arrangements for merchants hadn't hit yet. |

Yeah, I offer paypal as well. I've only had a few clients ask about credit cards. Mostly checks and cash is how I'm paid. I was interested if it really might increase sales if you advertised that you took plastic, and had a place for that on your website. But guess I'll let this go for now. Thanks, everyone.

Well, we don't have Cost Co in the midwest, but we have SAM's club. I'll see if they offer something similar. Hadn't thought of that.
thanks.

RE: Costco, Sam's Club & BJ's Warehouse memberships. I belong to Sam's & BJ's and trade-in-kind for the annual fees. We don't have a Costco...yet. Each of the chain stores in my area "sponsor" a specific elementary school PTSA within their market area. Each year at the start of the traditional school year they host a PTSA fundraiser "Back to School" event. I perform an hour at each store during this carnival in trade for a year's extension to my business membership. I originally did this as a live audition for the librarians, principals, teachers and parents who attend the event. Now, it's a way of saying thank you for supporting and referring me through the year...and my business and family membership fees are paid years ahead.
Back on thread...my sister uses Costco in Richmond for her credit card processing and tells me it saves her a fortune over what she was paying Paypal and her bank. If you belong to a Credit Union, this is another potential source for reasonable credit card processing and business financing.

Thanks, Skip. But do you offer credit card billing and, if so, do you think it increases your sales? Thanks.

I offer it, but it is RARELY used. I don't use any of the "middle men" offered, but rather have a traditional setup to accept credit cards through my bank. I have one Kindercare that hires me once a year and always pays with a company credit card. But other than that, it's almost never utilized. Besides, I lose a portion of my $ when I use it, so it's not to my advantage, really.
