I'm just getting my coin manipulation skills up to scratch. The back palm's giving me a right pain in the...finger... I know such things come down to practice, a bit more practice and even more practice. Has anyone some good tips on exersises to help with this manuever?
Also I'm using Australian coins, the only coin large enough for me to do this with any comfort is the 50c piece which is a ten sided coin 33mm across. I'd like to eventually be able to achieve this with our 20c piece which is 28mm in diameter. |

Hello, Dr. Saturn, and welcome!
Because the back palm can be such a difficult move for some (and impossible for others), many coin workers have adopted easier, more versatile sleights to use in it's place. If you're having trouble with the back palm, you may consider substituting the Tenkai pinch or the back clip. Not only are these sleights easier to master, but they can be done with any size coins. With the back palm, the smaller the coin, the less natural your hand will look. |

Yeah man back palm sucks! 50 cent coins are not big enough. Learn the Goshman pinch. Much more natural and useful.

Thanks for the advice. I'm certainly finding the other options easier. I've just been going through Bobo's book trying various things. Back clip is certainly easier. Where can I learn the Goshman pinch from?

Rob is right as usual... But do yourself a very big favor and learn it (and many, many other things) from the Godfather here, "Vinsmagic" on the Café...You'll be very glad you did...I guarantee.
Oh, and regarding palming, get yourself some coins from "The Magician's Coin." The beautiful Chinese coins he makes are at great price and comes with his unique edge grip that makes palming (especially the infamous Classic Palm and others) a breeze to do.

The Goshman pinch and the Tenkai pinch are one and the same. The move can be found in the hardback version of Bobo's book as well as on a number of Jay Sankey's DVDs, among other sources. Try a Google search.

Hmm, Chinese coins, they sound interesting. I do a bit of stuff with handfuls of Chinese Hell notes so they might fit.
Ah! I have only the paperback of Bobo. Thanks for the directions, all, I'll look it up. (and keep practicing...) |
