I've been practising sleights for almost a year now, and am starting to get comfortable with the basics. I've heard many good things about Mr. Harbottle on the Café, and think it might be time to take a look at his stuff - both for inspiration and perhaps to add to my skills.
My questions are: 1. Am I ready for this in terms of ability [some of the routines don't appear to be TOO difficult, at least according to the write up!]? 2. What would you recommend to start with [Money is tight after spending on various DVDs, gaff etc!]? Advice appreciated! |

Does this mean you have played around with the material in Coins On Edge?
That's where he put the basics of what he's doing today.

No, I haven't see any of his material... would Coins On Edge be the place to start? Coinapalooza I: Shell Shocked looks really interesting as I have been looking for some good routines for my [.

Get them all. It is all great work and there is much stuff that is too hard and some stuff that is easy. Start with the easy stuff and grow.
Let me make the additional point. There is some stuff in the world of magic that is just hard for hard's sake and never looks magical. That is not the case with Kainoa's stuff. |

Coins on Edge is definitely the place to start. It's written as a workbook of sorts, so some of the material in Coinapalooza takes it for granted that you'd be up on Edge Grip, Mutobe Palm, and the like. While there are some very easy routines in both Coinapaloozas (and a few in Coins on Edge) you get the most out of the former if you're familiar with my "basic" conception of things..... |

Straight from the horses mouth [no offense, Mr. Harbottle!]... looks like I'll just need to bite the financial bullet and get both. Thanks everyone [especially Mr. H!]

Yeah COE is awesome. I wasn't able to find "Flying Wombat" in my copy though. Is it under a different name?

I heard that it was located as an Easter Egg. You have to go to the Contents page and look up "Flying Wombat" then you go to page 44 and cross your eyes while holding the book upside down in a mirror and it will reveal itself to you. That or you will end up with a headache, which is great because it will match the pain that your hands will be in.

I would buy them all if you can afford it. The problem with a lot of magic material is that it just goes out of print, no longer made, etc and you wind up kicking yourself for not grabbling it.
Harbottle's work is worth skipping lunches for. |

... so the material demands skipping lunch to master which helps pay for the material. Fantastic!

Also the lightheadedness from the low blood sugar makes the magic look even better.

I'm now joining the chours~
When I first came along to Kainoa's materials he was releasing 2 books: Coins On the Edge and Cointopia. Due the limited budget I eventually chose CoE. I don't have the rights to say thing about his other publications as I myself don't own them. But CoE is definitely a good buy. The major (but not only) feature is of coz edge grip. You'll learn tons of moves accompanying with EG. As a stand-up performer I can say EG is one of the most useful sleights, as you can show your hands rather clean in chest level, not to mention you can turn the visible coin(s) at your fingertips. The materials are not very hard to learn but not easy to master, and even harder if you try to master all of them... there are so much to learn... I'm still trying the EG to EG transfer... >_< One little comment is there seems to be no mention of getting into Mutobe palm single handedly... but that's a minor problem. O yes, and his writing style is kind of nice. It humorous~ You won't laugh, but you'll smile while you are reading it.
It only takes a minute to learn how it is done, but takes a lifetime to learn how to do it.
