Mark, as we mentioned before, you have several female birds. They will continue to lay eggs. That's what they do. In another week or so, you'll know for sure. Any fertile eggs should have hatched by then.

I hope I do not get a second set of eggs as of now, cause that would mean I probably have 5 females...
Um - generaly how long does it take a female to lay non fertile eggs? (whats the cycle length? |

It doesn't matter whether they are fertile or not. If you leave the eggs in the nest, they won't lay again for several weeks. If you remove the eggs, they'll lay again in as little as a few days. You'll find that for the most part, they'll lay eggs now in the spring. They don't lay as many during the winter but you can never tell for sure.

Mark, that would mean you now have 9 eggs so far. Where are they laying them and are any of the birds sitting on them?

The ones from a week ago or so are in a bowl thingy that is on the side cage wall.
I havent seen them sit on any of those for a bit, I bet those are never going to hatch. The new ones were ontop (roof) of a small cage I keep inside my larger cage (3 birds sleep in there.) The new ones have a bird laying on them. I have noted the (possible) male because he was on it during the day. Thdis night Im going to see the (possible) female sitting on it. |

Hey Mark, just checking on the status of your birds. You're right, the males should be on the nest from about 10 AM to 4 PM and the female will take over the rest of the time. Seems like it's been about 20 days since you first reported this. What's new?

Hi,
The eggs from before did not hatch, and I idnt see any birds lay on them for over a week, I crakced them open and nothing living seemed to be inside. The new set of eggs, seem like it could possibly carry something, my birds have been sitting on them nonstop, unlike that batch of eggs before. |

Gordon, I know it sounds strange but the times are pretty accurate. I questioned this at first and then watched my birds for awhile. It's pretty close to those times.

Sweet guys my birds laid eggs- this is for the first time for this pair. They are the youger birds- possibly about 1 yr(?) now.
These two doves were mating yesterday or the day before and today I noticed them near the bottom. One was twitching its feathers- not ruffling. I mentioned to my dad that I thought it was going to lay an egg- several hours later it did. These are the only eggs I am convinced are likely fertilized- As I saw when they mating, right in front of me (quite claerly too!) I separated them from the other birds. Near the 29th I should see if the eggs laid on the 8th will hatch or not. By the way, When I saw them mate, the female was on the bottom and it lower its wings, then it put its tale up. You could see its "butt" and the other bird jumped on top- steadied itself, and then flapped its wings. |

Yup, that's the mating ritual. Now you'll have to wait another 21 days to see what happens.
