There's a lot of story deck effects on the market, and they're all really good. The problem that I've found is that they're really tailored towards the performance style of the ones who created it (this probably holds most true for David Regal's "After Hours.") I was wondering if anyone has made their own story deck effect. If so, how did you go about structuring it?

Seems like it would be a fun thing to do. Especially if its something that actually happened in your life. Not only would this make it more interesting but also easier to remember.
All the best, Kranzo

I have a VERY DIRTY poem trick I do, yet it doesn't use all the cards in the deck - yet very entertaining(?).
Anyone else have a poem they made up to do in a trick also? |

My 'Hopping Henry' routine was born out of a desire to create a full-deck routine which didn't involve any poker terminology, and which was therefore more appropriate for a British audience. I had watched Bill Malone performing 'Sam the Bellhop', and tried out the routine, but it didn't feel as natural as I had hoped. So I designed a routine around a comic life of Henry VIII, which was a great challenge, as I wanted all the details to be (fairly) historically accurate, and yet have a well-structured narrative that was full of humour. The routine went down a treat, especially with the great number of British who have been drilled at Tudor history.
I would say that if you have an individual angle, you should definitely put in the effort to come up with a new routine that is embedded in your own personality, as this will always come off strongly. hop this helps! tim |
