Just wondering if there's any filmmakers in the Café.

Does having a TON of ideas, several 'treatments', and the promise of a friend to help with his camera and editing equipment count?

Used to do industrials, now I do magic-business instructional dvds (see my website below) and working on some video backgrounds and stock footage - I used to stay up all night watching magic videos, now I stay up all night editing stuff with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Yeah, it all counts. Anyone who wants to do it. I've been wanting to do this type of work for years and I'm trying to get a loan to start. I know it's hard to make money in making movies so I decided I could do local weddings and music videos, ETC. But I'd like to make some short films first, then maybe a feature.

Yep...I am also a filmmaker. Have three shorts and two full lengths under my belt. The best way to make a little money at it is to do a short film, submit it to as many film festivals as you can, use any $ you get from that for the budget in your next film, submit that one to film festivals, recycle that cash...
Eventually, if you have talent, you might get a large enough budget to do a full length. Just how I have approached it. Gwyd |

I suppose I count. I'm about to have a BFA in Filmmaking from the North Carolina School of the Arts, School of Filmmaking in around 5 weeks. I'm a screenwriting major, though they make us fill all crew positions, so we have a fairly well-rounded film education. I've crewed on about 40 student films and 3 independent shorts.
As for finding funding - go to dentists! They have lots of extra cash, and they get the glory of telling their friends that they're "producing" a movie. Another common practice is to scratch together a short film (15 minutes or so) that's in the same vein as your feature. That way, you can show the short to potential backers, and they can get a better idea of what you have in mind for a feature, and if they want to support it. Kevin

I love film and editing! I can't wait to get final cut for the mac. Also saving for a bigger cam.

Mine & my cousin's Lego Stop Motion Videos! =) Scripts written by yours truly, voice acted & filmed by both of us. Dig "The Adventures of Diavo & Joe" Episodes IV (4) and VII (7).

Underground, above ground, whatever. I don't need a label, thanks. |
