I do Daryl's color changing knives. Now I'm still practicing it. Basically I'm using Daryl's patter, but I want to construct another one.
So, my question is, I need a reason/background for color changing knives - why I change its color? Given that those knives are uncommon nowadays (in Taiwan here, few people bring those knives), it's hard to introduce such an object to the audience. I sincerely invite your input. Thanks.
A novice't reflection: I like watching my audience's jaws drop, but sadly in reality I'm just too busy to enjoy it.

You could use sales patter, as if you are trying to sell the knives, and you're demonstrating the range of colours. You could be attempting to match the knives to something else of a similar colour for reasons of ascetics. You could speak about a spy organisation that identifies themselves to each other by the colour of their knives, and then demononstrate how the knife colour changes to fool enemy spycatchers. You could tell how you ordered a knife in a store, but it was supplied in the wrong colour, yet whenever you tried to complain about not getting the right colour, the store clerk would insist it was the right colour, and sure enough it was...until you left the store again...
It is possible to do the knives as something other than a colour change. Whit Hayden's Intricate Web of Deception uses the knives as a transposition effect - white knife changes places with black knife and vice versa kind of thing, and it is a brilliant and cleverly routined performance piece. |

Oh, thanks for your ideas. Great, I like the store clerk's concept.
