I had some interesting experiences this weekend. I was at a restaurant and a lady wanted to see some 'stuff.' She had a checkbook with a notepad and I did Reversal from Banachek's Psych-Subt book. She was impressed but thought it came out the same every time. She wrote another number and figured again and , luckily, it the result was a two digit number, which meant I could reveal it perfectly. My luck continued in an equivoque sequence where she touched the right object on her first choice. She was fairly freaked out at this point. I was to see her again two days later and she agreed to bring playing cards. There was not much time so I had her shuffle the cards and I began my version of Harry Lorayne's impromptu Out Of This World that I learned from a small book of his many years ago. I set up the black indicator card on the left , red on the right, and she started choosing which pile the card went to. She said black for seven straight cards and gave every indication she was going to continue to say "black" for the foreseeable future. So I ended the routine at eight or nine cards and had her turn them over one at a time. She was stunned that they all were black. The problem is she could just as easily have called them all red. I likely would have ended the routine early again reframing the purpose of the experiment explaining that my mental influence had the effect of her getting them all wrong.
I have performed this version hundreds of times without a glitch. Acknowledging that there is more than a small amount of spectator management that I might have been negligent for, I was just wondering if anyone else had the experience of a spectator calling the same color over and over, refusing to call the other color, and how you might have handled it. |

Yes, I´ve had people go for the same colour all the time at which point I stress that it´s important that they think randomly and don´t try to outsmart me. If I think I´ve got someone who is likely to do this I mention it at the start before we begin the effect.
In fact I performed this for a bunch of Spanish people with a friend translating for me and the first half ended up very uneven - something like 19 black cards and 5 red. When it came to the switching sides portion I made sure the person understood there were only so many black cards left in the remaining portion. |

Might I suggest you use this:
"...ok then, remember, around half of them will be black and obviously the other half red, ok?" (naturally nodding your head as you ask for confirmation). If they then go on to say: "I think they're all black", I would suggest you immediately go on to do a watch steal, and maybe their wallet and underpants. Bobser

Never happened to me, but then I never use the full deck and clearly explain why I DON'T so that spectators are properly lead along my path.

The Lorayne impromptu version does not use a full deck either and part of the strength of it is when the participant picks up the rest of the deck afterwards and sees the reds and blacks intermingled. And, thankfully, in the situation described above, I could end the routine early and one quick cut or shuffle destroys any trace of any 'work.' This would be much more difficult with a full-deck version.
