I am having a friend over later, and maybe one or two other people and we were going to try some hypnosis, I was wandering since it is not a stage setting, what kinda of hypnotic suggestions could I perform on him that most would be willing to do, any suggestions?

No.
I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end...

If you have to ask, then you really need more training. Sorry to sound snarky, but take a peek on some of my other posts about the concept of training as it applies to working with others. It is NOT a wise idea to go playing about inside someone else's head unless you know how to handle anything unexpected that might happen.

Just go for it. It sounds like you have more than one friend so you can spare at least one.

ROTFL, Shrink! Best laugh I've had since two volunteers in my Man From Planet Macho had the following exchange:
Me: "What do you do on your planet that makes you so macho, sir?" Volunteer 1 (who was a 300lb man): "I bench press!" (moving down to the other end of the stage to the only other guy, another 300+lb guy) Me: "and what do you do on Plane Macho that makes you so macho, sir?" Volunteer 2: "I bench press!" Me (to Volunteer 2): "Well, that guy down there says he's more macho than you are." Volunteer 2 (looks across stage at Volunteer 1 and sneers): "That's the guy I bench press!" From the National Guild of Hypnotists Convention 2000 show, with Ormond McGill sitting in the front row, no less! Lee Darrow, C.H.

Lee everyone here needs training. That's why we come in here and ask questions. Because we don't know the answers.
If every question me and the other newbies ask we get an elitist answer such as: "Go get hypnosis certificate and don't talk with us unless you know what you are talking about" then this forum is, IMO, quite useless. I am well aware of the dangers hypnosis can create and that's why I use pseudo hypnosis acts nowadays. So that's what I suggest for the Magical Mesmerizer too. |

Any question that is asked about how to actually do hypnosis should direct them to training. I'm with LEE here.
The original poster is as daft as my answer.. Shrink |

Thanks, Shrink.
To me, the point of the original question implied that the poster knows a simple induction and the question was "what do I do now?" To me, this implies that the poster is rather in the dark about what to do with someone once they are hypnotized, which says to me that they have no idea of what can happen WHEN someone is hypnotized. That speaks loudly of a complete lack of training ad that says that there is a pretty serious safety concern for the hypnotist and the volunteers. Lee Darrow, C.H.

We all got the same snarky responses when we started so toughen up. If you can't take it then you won't make it in this business. You won't have that certain something to get up on the stage and expect 20 total strangers to put on a show for you. There are tons of resources out there. Invest your money and your time in them. Once you have mastered those basics and have an understanding that shows in your posts then ask the questions and you find that they are answered.
I'm starting to sound like the people I said I'd never sound like. Too bad, get over it. It wasn't handed to me on a silver platter and you'll really stink if someone hands it to you on one anyway. Good luck with your endeavors and when you have the knowledge go out and make us all proud that you have become one of us. Martin

Let's talk a bit about some things you can do without inducing trance for a moment, though, shall we? This way, there's something the guy CAN do for his friends and there won't be the problems, hopefully, of safety that could be engendered and yet his friends will still see that he has some pretty cool skills - okay?
The pendulum. Draw a circle on a piece of paper and draw a line vertically through it and a line horizontally through it, kind of like the crosshairs on a gunsight. Have the person hold a pendant over the center, elbow off the table and have him or her close their eyes. Now have the volunteer imagine that there's a magnet pulling the pendulum up toward the tip of the circle. Harder and harder, swinging up and down towards the top... Once it's swinging, have them open their eyes and watch their expression. You can do this for side-to-side and around in circles as well... ------------------------ Hands Rising and Falling Have the volunteers (do this with the whole group) hold their right hand out straight in front of them, like they were oing to shake hands. No resting the arm on anything. Now hold the left hand out next to the right, but palm up. Tell them to imagine that the right hand is tied to a huge bundle of balloons that are filled with helium, pulling the arm and hand up, up toward the sky, higher and higher with every breath... And in the other hand is a big, thick, heavy dictionary, weighing that arm and hand down, down, heavier and heavier with every word... as the right hand rises up higher and higher, the left drops down further and further... (continue like this for a bit and, when you have significant movement, have them all open their eyes and watch their responses - it will generate a LOT of talk) Hope this helps a bit more... These are called ideomotor tests, by the way... Lee Darrow, C.H.

I like to call them concentration test that way it puts it on the person to respond, not me. Plus who wants to be the idiot who can't concentrate?

I like to call them relaxation exercises and then when you have them under they never know they've been had.

True, Pirate, but the point of my post was that the original poster didn't seem to have enough knowledge to do actual hypnosis safely, so I offered some ideomotor work so he could at least do something similar.
I've used these demonstrations in one-on-one work as leads to trance for decades, literally, but I wasn't about to show the precise how-to of that to someone who has no idea of the ins and outs of trance management and suggestion formulation, not to mention how to deal with possible abreactions. That's why I went with ideomotor work. It's safe, impressive and easy to learn. Sorry for the confusion there. Obviously, I didn't communicate my intentions all that clearly in my post. My apologies.
