I noticed that http://www.illusionstore.com is selling David Roth's Expert coin magic book.
It is the only site I've seen it available at and believed it was out of print- is it likely to be some dodgy copy or the 'real deal'? It is a book I've wanted to get hold of for ages so am very tempted but would only be interested in the real thing. Thanks for any advice! |

FYI... I saw this too (from Illusionstore) and excitedly ordered from them several months ago. Then, after a LOOOOOONG wait and many follow up emails requesting a status update on my order I was told (frankly, as I expected) that it was unavailable. They really need to update their website. Fortunately, I found a terrific used copy elsewhere, which is likely your best bet for now.

Ok thanks everyone - it did seem to be good to be true - if they really do have it in stock I'll let you all know (after I've ordered my copy).

Just as an aside, I gather that this book was first opublished in the 1970s. Has he
invented more unpublished routines subsequently or did he 'rest on his laurels' after that? |

Roth's book was published in 1985. Over the years, he has continued to come up with new and good stuff, but most of his work and much of his best is in ECM.

I've also been looking for this ECM.
I also notice ECM on the Illusionstore site. I also notice that there was no phone number. Does anyone know if this book will be reprinted?

Last time I saw Roth in the CA bay area... I asked him about any reprintings. He said if enough people hounded Kauffman that Richard might reprint it. I sort of got the impression that it wasn't up to David but rather Richard is the one that has the capability.

Contact Kaufman. He had one sitting on the back shelf when I ordered my copy several months ago and may have one or two more. Good luck.

I have been looking around for this book for a while now. What is the contact info for Kaufman? I will contact him and see if he has any more books. I post what I find. Thanks,

I found mine used in a B&M shop. You may want to check williamsmagic.com see if they have another in stock...that is where I got mine, for a GREAT price.

I talked with Robert Kaufman about the ECM book by Email and telephone over the past couple of days, this is the first chance I had to post what he told me.
He has 4 books left at $50.00 each postpaid. You have to order it throught the Geni office, 301-656-6234 no Internet orders. He asked me to post this here for those that are interrested it is first come. Please post if take one of the books so that everyone will know when they are all gone. He never answer if he is going to republish the book. The impression that I got is that there are no plans to do it.

Rats!
I just emailed Kaufman, and he confirmed that they are all gone! With the tendency for many to prefer DVDs over books, I wonder if it will be reprinted. Maybe as suggested above, if others make the request, he may get motivated to reprint it, or maybe it will be passed over to e-Lyrary?

Agh, have obviously chosen a bad time to be away, sounds like it REALLY is unavailable now.
I wonder what a minimum pprint run would have to be to be worthwhile? I'm sure it would sell like hot cakes amongst younger/newer coin magic devotees. Given that so many old books are being reprinted (e.g., Stars of Magic, card magic of le paul) it's strange this hasn't been. It can't be because of wanting to limit the knowledge, because of the widely available DVD range. Might it just be becasue DVDs are more profitable and republishing the book would impact on those sales? Just my thoughts... |
