Why is the commenting on the artistic merits of a production a taboo behavior amongst magicians and or mentalists?
Only being able to examine a topic from one vantage point is in my opinion forever exiling oneself to the lot of the being a second rate citizens of the art and performance world. C’mon cats and kittens let us turn on the lights invite some new ideas in and have a party. This is what I think and as of yet, I see no reason to think I am incorrect. Magicians, enjoy seeing new tricks presented on the box, tube,TV. Go to any magic shop and you will see the same level of presentation seen on most TV Magico offerings. But they the Macico’s think the current offerings are grand. I think the reason is that they get to watch it on the box and do not have to go to the shop or look online. Magicians do not need a good presentation to be enthralled with a trick because they enjoy the cleverness of the trick, Gaff, gimmick . They want to know how and think others (Regular people) suffer from the same mental affliction they do. Spectators do not like many magicians because they enjoy engaging entertainment not tricks. Look at the offerings that non-magic field related entertainers, scholars and researchers produce. Watch the history or SCI-FI channel do you all really consider the camera/editing/directing and scripting of the recent shows to be on the same level? Heck just look, how many people are watching fellas built choppers or play cards! I am not saying the “Tricks” are not good. (Yes I like tricks too I was and am a magician). But the production was abysmal and the scripting if it can be called that appeared to a large extent to be non-existent. Yes good moments a few good camera shots. But if I had paid to see any of this stuff in a theater I would have been hard pressed to sit through it. One more thing some will no doubt start their yaps going about bad grapes etc well it is none of that I assure you. But it is supreme irritation that no one seams willing to educate themselves so that they may actually portray their product in a favorable way in the broadcast media. This is my opinion and I would enjoy a real discussion about this. Not a magically lobotomized drivel fest that has become so very common. Jim H. O. A X

I'd like to participate, but is this is geared towards the last special, I cannot. There is nothing of value I can say as I did not see it. I was out performing when the show aired. Plus I think it is bad form to criticize another professional's work. Who am I to judge someone who has made it to the top of his art form by having a national television show? No one! Our world is far too full of people trying to tear down others and their accomplishments to supplant their own lack of achievement. If this is on how to construct an entertaining production, I would be more than willing to participate. Tony |

Yes it is about an entertaining production or at least how to start looking at these things as real people do.
