Does anyone have routines involving Rune Stones? I have Jim Magus's Book on them but just wondered if anyone has come up with anything on their own? The history on these stones is rich! If they aren't in your act I suggest you give them a try.

There are some routines in the Compleat Invocation, I just got a set myself as well as some ruin cards. They are pretty cool, I'm sure this topic will get many responses.

I have Jim's book as well and have been working a few things myself, is there an area you are looking at, or just in general?

Jim Magus's Book is the only book, in English, entirely devoted to runes. It's very valuable. Christian Chelman wrote (in French) a book sold with his runes. I hardly believe that you can create personal effects while playing with your runes (gimmicked runes, special bags, ....)
Create your own wooden runes, you'll have unique props for unique experiments. Best- Didier |

A quick chosen rune find before a reading can be done with tr methods (Book two of Corrinda). I use stone runes: the client chooses, then holds one, and a bit of sensitivity and a pendulum does the rest.

An effect I worked out (first bizarre effect) is to lay out the stones in the Q-force. I show a pack of playing cards and talk about all the likeness it has to a calendar. 52 cards 52 weeks, 4 suits 4 seasons, so on.
Spectator 1 selects a card from the deck and commits that card to memeory. Card is replaced in the deck and the deck cut. Spectator 2 selects a number from 1 to 26 (number of Runes). I tell the spectators that the Runes are placed in a circle which symbolizes life. The Q-force takes care of the picking of the rune. Now I pick up the deck of cards face up and count the cards, asking spectator 1 to say stop when they see their card. Of course I count to 51 and the card isn't seen. Spectator 2 is asked to pick up the book of runes which has been on the table the entire time of the routine and asked to page thru the book. He will come to a page marked by a playing card, the selected playing card! The playing card is discovered on the page of spectator 2's selected rune.

Can you recommend a book or pamphlet where I can find the Q-force? |

Sorry.... I missed these two books... and I forgot to say that Jim Magus's book is full of effects, not cold reading stuff... I learned a lot about runes in the 80's, and here (France), the whole stuff about bizarre magick was not immediately known by everybody... Every book by Ron Martin is interesting. "the sponge", can you tell us more about the effects in these books?? Thank you. Best- Didier |

In the Book of Thoth (tarot effects) there's an ideomotor upturned glass find of a chosen card.
Why not work this with runes? Swap the glass for a goblet, or better yet a knarled, ancient wooden cup. Talk about the origin of the runes, with Odin nailed to a tree, and other things Viking, and an effect starts to take shape. Throw in a battered horn filled with stuff to flash in a candle flame, an Old Norse parchment, and the sound of a long horn sounding over a dark fjord and you're nearly there. It's probably best if you don't use one of those two-horned helmets for the glass (!) Thinking out loud, why not use a lode stone dangling on a leather strap, a pk gimmmick, and divine the rune that way? Or get rid of the pk gimmick, and have the rune hidden in a room or cemetery, and with a bit of Hellstronism and the lode stone find it that way. Finally, rune symbols are fairly easy to swami. They're also coin sized for Bobo switches etc. Don't forget to follow up your effect with a reading. I do a simple three rune layout for past, present, and future. I've found that runes are generally less familiar to people than, say, Tarot, and I can follow an effect with a reading more easily. There's less of the 'I thought you were a seer, but then you do a card trick' factor. Hope this helps. Regards Caleb Strange.

For those of you that wish to know, the q-force is explained in Dunningers Encyclopedia of Magic (I found it at a Barne's and Nobles bookstore)

In reference to a posting by "The Sponge," it is my understanding that Ron Martin is still very much alive. This, according to the president of the Psychic Entertainers Association. Both Ron and I are members.
