Hello
If you wanted to produce or vanish 4 coins, would you buy a special close up pad just for this effect? Thanks. |

Are you gonna do standing or sit down ?
There're many ways to do the effect without buying special close up mat

I will, I am a big friend for that!
Yes, is a lot the way to do the effect without useing the special close-up mat. But on the other hand, If you need do your coin magic will use close-up mat, you already use the mat, why don't use special close-up mat, that can make you more clean. you can roll up you sleeve, and you never need to go in you pocket.......... You don't need to buy the special close up mat, you also just DIY to make you mat special(is not hard to do) John Born have a book(Matrix God's Way) also have some great tip for that. and Michael Rubinstein the Double Mat system also a great idea. |

No.
The very first thing that spectators suspect (even before the obvious sleeves) is the mat or the table or whatever surface you're working on. If you use a mat, keep it ungimmicked. Unless you are working so formal that any interaction or interference from their part is impossible. I work with Dean Dill pads and some made by myself. I allow a spectator to feel the surface and lift the mat in the beginning sometimes to get the thought of gimmicks out of their head. Call it a Red Herring...

I agree with Mr. Lefay, my close-up mat MUST be ungimmicked. Nearly every time I perform a matrix, the mat is the first thing inspected. And, I rarely get the opportunity to use a mat, as most of my work is stand up stage, restaurant, bar, or street work. Although I'm always interested in a new coin vanish/ appearance, I don't think a gimmicked mat would peak my interest.
Cheers!!!

You don't need a special mat. I perform matrix in many different surfaces. some of which are easier to perform than others. I like to perform with a mat (ungimmicked) because of the contrast with the coins and classy look.

I don't use a pad..but that is because the routine I do does not call for it.
It is all dependant one your routine.
