I think that one of the best things that I like about you in your pictures and films, is how you dress and the appearance that you set( maybe it was the cigar). The people you interview looked dumpy and you looked sharp. I would think just by your appreance alone you would get more people willing to stay and watch your show easier than the other performers just because of their looks.
This is one of my complaints about a lot of street performers and that is they often do not look much better than some bums.

My favorite part is the street guy asking Tom for money to take a photo of his deck. Tom's response is "I'm a street performer, I don't have any money", as he pulls out his digital camera to photograph the deck (and even shows the photo to the guy), and then a $10 cigar in the other hand, with a gold watch on
Too funny Thanks Tom, made me laugh for the day!

That was a great look into the "real world" of street performing. Thanks!

Tom, Tom, Tom -
I'm still laughing, but I wanted to post before the 'decency police' take this whole thread down. Thanks for putting the 'street' back in street performing. The first thing I love is how 'seriously' the pikers take the video compared to you and your '@#$# you ' attitude. I recognize so well the 'dude, it's a joke' stance that you to adapt just to deal with the endless rejection and indifference that you face as a street performer. And yet it's clear that you are one of the survivors. Sincerity is only going to run over you like a mack truck. It's a blessing to be reminded of the reality of the street after reading all these discussions about how great it is by people who have spent more time watching Gazzo DVD's than out in the trenches. Stop worrying about the height of your table and the diameter of your wand and get out there! Hey, this ain't Broadway man, it's the street. And you got to love Mysto's rap doing the coin routine. Polished like a brass bell....So THAT'S why they call it the French Drop! I couldn't agree more about the difference, in initial appearance, between you and the other people in the video. It's just a hat and a pressed, colored shirt, but it's enough to create a sense of character. Let that be a lesson to beginners. So thanks for sharing. Tom, that was really great stuff, I used to hang out at Pike Place market back in the 80's, that video also brought back some fond memories.
Were you ever allowed to busk and the Seattle Center? johnny

Tom:
Thanks again for a great video. I've been watching your videos for years and enjoy them all. Some I don't understand, but that's just the nature of the streets too. The problem is I understand most of 'em. Keep it up and good luck in California... I think their ready for you. |

Tom,
Just great, great, stuff and so true. The honesty was brilliant. Laughed my A** off. Best, Dan- "MT is one of the reasons we started this board! Thanks for the vid,
If that doesn't encourage me to get out there and face the world nothing will, It's heartening to know that even the old hands still have bad days and that I'm almost certainly not going to be the bigest freak out there on any given day. Right wheres my cups....................
I was put on this earth to do a great many things..... I'm now so far behind that I don't think I'm ever going to die!
