I am applying for a Canadian Arts Board Grant for my new show -- does any one have any advice and or experience doing this?

Research Doug Henning. Isn't that how he got the cash to study at the feet of Vernon?

Wow, here is the response I got in an inquiring email from the arts board...

"Thank you for your recent inquiry about Canada Council for the Arts
programs of assistance.

The Canada Council for the Arts' mandate is to foster and promote the
arts in Canada through the provision of grants to professional Canadian
artists and Canadian arts organizations. Applicants must be Canadian
citizens or permanent residents of Canada. Professional artists are
defined as artists who have completed their basic training (this can be
formal or informal), who have a history of public presentation of their
work, and who are recognized by their peers.

I encourage you to review the programs online for theatre artists, the
criteria of eligibility must be met to qualify;

Please note that theatre artists must have practiced with professional
companies or independent professional productions for at least two
years.

The Canada Council for the arts grants are not intended to support work
created for commercial use. "Magic is not an art form that the Canada
Council supports."

Apparently the canadian government doesn't consider us to be artists, how dissapointing....
