Well, I'm trying to get my magic career off and running, I started to go and advertise myself to the local restaurants and stuff and today my fathers friend offers me a job. Pays very well for an 18 year old, 401K , health benifits, etc... but I really enjoy magic but I also need the money. What should I do? Should I work and then do restaurants on the side or try to go all out and advertise for events and stuff. Please everyone with any advice I really need it right now.

Take the job and do magic on the side. You would be surprised how having a regular job helps you in magic. Getting a steady pay check is a wonderful thing.

If you do take the job (and I think it's probably a good idea) just don't let yourself get comfortable.
I took a factory job and got stuck there for 13 1/2 years because I was afraid that my family might suffer if I did what I really wanted to do, which was writing. It took a big layoff to get me motivated. Thanks to a year's buffer period provided by unemployment insurance, I was able to get my writing career started, and I've been happily employed as a writer for over twenty years now. Thank God for that layoff, or I would probably still be in that factory! Don't lose sight of your dream.

Thanks for your advice. I think I will take the job and hone in on my magic skills and get a little more practice in and just keep doing restaurants.

MIDWEST, you are 18..take the job work on your magic and even if you take 10 years to go full time you would still be young enough to get back into the work force if the magic does not succeed. I quit my real job at 35 to pursue magic as a full time job and have not looked back since...almost 6 years now...

Do magic on the side at first. Without the real job, you're mind may be so weighed down with stress and worries about where your next meal will come from, that you may not be able to CONCENTRATE on the magic at all.
