Which of these books would you reccomend more?

I think the answer here will be very harsh but both. I'm hoping to get Roth's book now it has been reprinted.

There is a pretty big Roth section in CoinMagic.
Yet my feeling is to go with the Roth book when Kaufman republishes it (he says soon).

My own opinion is that the choice would depend upon your existing knowledge and coin skills.
I found that "Expert Coin Magic" was more for the beginner or intermediate coin worker (although there is plenty there to challenge someone with advanced coin skills, too). "Expert Coin Magic" also contains a fairly large section on the Okito Box, which is great if you're interested in that apparatus and fascinating even if you're not. David did a lot of thinking "outside the box" here (no pun intended) and came up with some revolutionary and very creative handlings for the Okito Box. On the other hand, "CoinMagic" seemed to me to have more difficult sleights and routines, and also presupposed a certain amount of knowledge/experience on the part of the reader. I would say that if you are familiar with Bobo's "Modern Coin Magic," you could handle "Expert Coin Magic." If you are VERY comfortable with Bobo and "Expert Coin Magic," then go for "CoinMagic." I agree with sethb about the Okito Box section of ECM. Great resource if you use one or plan to.
Some of the routines in ECM, which are excellent, use some off the wall props and are more for formal table work. Some very useful moves there. CoinMagic includes several top coin workers, including Roth. All with their own style and ideas. The props are less, and to me, and a large number of routines are more practical than the ones in ECM. They're both terrific and you will benefit from either. |

COINMAGIC hands down.
ECM will give you only one creators perspective. Of course, you'll want both eventually, but most of the Roth material can be had on video too. That's not the case for COINMAGIC. |

I think the picture of Roth on the back of ECM is worth the price of the book.

I have both, and I love both.
Though I am partial to ECM, I suggest getting both.

I agree with wsduncan. CoinMagic gives you more breadth. In addition, I am a big fan of effects one can do standing up, and I was frustrated by how many Roth routines require one to be sitting at a table. Expert Coin Magic is good, but CoinMagic has some great anytime, anywhere type of routines.

I am perplexed at the comparison.
There are wonders in ECM and a creative magi knows how to translate sit down to stand up. There is an entire area of study in parlor and stage magic devoted to getting rid of things and secretly acquiring things. They work with billiards and doves. Compared to that, coins are just small and noisy. IMHO both are important. And several of the folks who contribued to CoinMagic were exposed to a good deal of the Roth material before hand.
