Do you mean what plays well for this age? They like card tricks at this age, and it's new to them. Dippy Duck plays great, I also have a cool routine using Geatan Bloom's "Intercessor". Arm, head, or wrist chopper, sword thru neck, yes, though not my choice. You have to amaze them when they're this age, there are subtle differences in the comedy they enjoy. You can't miscall colours, and they will question everything. A good cut & restored rope routine still plays well, and this age group especially love big, cool props. They HAVE to be "cool", though. If they see a prop which they think is for young kids, they'll give you hell! My benchmark for "cool" props for this age is Wolf's Magic's "Outhouse". Being a toilet, it appeals to all ages, especially 8-10 year-olds.
Anything to do with farts, snot, or stinky things works well in the UK. Depending on the size of the group, this age group are very fond of close-up magic too. Many times I find older kids have smaller parties, as they have a certain group of friends by this time. When I only have about 10 kids in the audience, I'll bring along a selection of close-up magic, as it amazes them and they find it highly entertaining. |
