Hello,
I love the concept of "Kurotsuke", but I would love to do this effect without touching the bag myself. Anyone suggestions ? I know about "equinox", but I honestly can't afford it, so... Greets, |

Make a "nothing" about the paper bag and the selection process. Hurry things along, and crush the bag at the end. By making a "nothing" about the whole thing the spectators making a nothing about it as well. It is also a good idea to not mention what you are going to do until after the selections have been made. Do not even mention the "game" until after the dirty work is done. Just show the stones (I use white stones with one crimson stone), drop them in the bag, have them selected, throw away the bag, and then go into the explanation of the experiment.

Hello Traveller,
I don't know if this is of any help to you, but Chad Sanbourn, posted mention of a very clean and simple method for this effect about a year or so ago here on the Café which also might be of interest? I am respectful of the fact that this is an open forum, so will not detail anything here, but I am sure you would find Chad very obliging and very courteous if you pm'd him here on the Café asking for further details? Nice to chim in hear ML.
Smashing the bag is such a nice touch to this effect, thanks dPE. I always wondered why Max did it.

Always a pleasure to chat with you Candini!
I agree that smashing the bag is a good visual, and could certainly help make the bag seem incidental to the whole effect. (Thank you dpe666) The thread I spoke of above where Chad mentions his simple and clean handling of this effect is http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=82 It's a very simple, but very clever method! (It's also Chad SANBORN by the way - apologies for the misspell Chad!) Best, *Magical Lady* |

Hi: Used Equinox being re-sold show up rarely but they can be found once in a while. It is worth shopping around the other forums too. As for the new ones, Hocus Pocus and Alakazam will have the new and improved version very soon. For the Kurotsuke style of effect, Equinox can not be beat.

I've been doing Kurotsuke using Patrick Redford's Prevaricator thing. It works and is hands off.

I can't say enough about Prevaricator. I just used it last night (and it killed). The method really is brilliant and is just fun to do!
my 2 cents! Sean |

Also, I just e-mailed you some ideas you are going to find very useful!

You find it in "The Compleate Magick" Vol. IV.

So this is Vol IV of the actual compilation of Magick Magazine, and not Vol IV of the magazine itself (which didn't number itself with Volumes anyway, just a continuous number). I can't find anything about the actual numbers contained in Vol IV here, only that it's some 600 pages or so. Now, Magick was what, 2500+ pages in the end? That means a bit more than 100 numbers per bound volume (at 5 pages per number plus the bonus inserts). So that would mean this number (#438) is somewhere near the end of Vol IV. I wonder what Vol V will look like, considering that there are only 496 numbers, which would mean something like half the size of the other volumes? Not that it matters anyway... Why yes, I do work in a library, why do you ask? Wait, I seem to read from the description on Collector's Workshop that this is not a bound collection of the serial, but seems to be reorganized somehow? They talk about a chapter on publicity effects, one on close-up, etc. New typesetting, new illustrations. Is it basically Magick Magazine cut-up and reorganized by effect type? What I would really like is just a bound collection of sequential numbers. And a really, really good index, of course . |

What we do need is a digital edition of Magick (just like JINX, Pabular, Phoenix, Sphinx, etc) for us who don't own the original version.

I travel a lot and sometimes for my OWN USE ONLY (so, don't even try to ask! ) I scan pages from a magazine or from a book and I bring it with me during flights, hotel stayings, etc. So I can have a lot of things to read with me and yet... I travel light!
