Alloo, is there a starting point with using mirror effects? Something in the context of a stage show though.
I'm not after huge stage shows but little stepping stones to work my way up! Thanks |

Mirrors? Nobody uses mirrors anymore!
Seriously, if you want to start adding some illusions to a stage show, your best bet is one of many "illusionettes" out on the market- a guillotine effect, the dagger head box, etc. Something small and easily portable, that plays big with the proper performance skills. After that, slowly add another illusion or two at a time. They're expensive, and tough to transport- the more you have, the more you need to scale up your show (and staff- one assistant/stage hand isn't enough for the "big ones".)

Not true! I always use mirrors when I've done stage shows... How else do you check to make sure your hair and make-up look good? Hahahaha! Bryan Gilles |

And there is the card trick called "Done With Mirrors" where all the back of the cards turn into mirrored surfaces...but you want a big illusion. Maybe you could use a super jumbo deck
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

Sorry Face! I'll share that laughter with you...
Oh- I've got one... How about a mirror box? Or Peppers Ghost? or head on sword? or even a Mirror Table? These are all the same gist.... -Bryan |

Mirrors, they are still a current element in many of today's top illusions, all you need to do is look at some of Jim Steinmeyers top selling effects. There was a mirror used in an illusion of his, and if I did not see it for my self I would not have believed it.

Check out Jim Steinmeyer's book "Hiding the Elephant" if you want to know about mirror illusions. I have made models of illusions that involve mirrors. I have always wanted to use them.
After reading in the book about Morrit's dissipearing motorcycle, I created the appearing and dissapearing Mini Cooper. The appearing and dissapearing Mini Cooper uses a Corcasian (I think that's how you spell it) trap to make it appear under a curtain, and a mirror to make it dissappear. |

Mirrors are cool but really hard to light on a stage. I have several props that use them and to be honest if at all possible I don't use them...just because...
Geez, even my Origami bugs the heck out of lots of the audience as the spotlights reflect off the back mirror and hit folks in the face during the routine... Glass mirrors break and Plexi ones warp ... if you're just starting out invest in something you can do anywhere...not just once in awhile... Just my opinion... Opinions are like As***les...everyones got one, some are bigger than others ... and most of them stink! Cheers, Shawn Farquhar http://www.magiChampion.com |
