Can someone clear this up for me? What is "unique" about the Gemini Cage? I know that it is a very HIGH quality illusion...however how does it differ from the standard Blammo Box? In the Osborn plans it details how to make the Blammo into a livestock vanish / transformation...just like the Gimini Cage.
Thanks in advance... Cody S. Fisher

Hi Cody,
The Blammo Box is a box with solid sides and a top. To execute the transformation, the top is removed allowing all four sides to drop down and to the sides of the tabletop to reveal the girl. The Gemni Cage is a cage whose starting position is more akin to the Fire Cage. To execute the transformation, the cage is covered with the cloth. The cloth is lifted up revealing that the entire cage with doves change into a girl. So, while the visual look does appear similar, the Blammo is a transformation of the doves to girl while the other is the entire cage transforming into the girl. Think vanishing cage but with the production of a girl. Many like the look of the Gemni because it ends with the girl on a thin tabletop and nothing else, making it difficult for the audience to reconstruct the illusion. The Blammo ends almost as clean but the sides of the box remain hanging over. This also leaves little for the audience to construct but several magicians I've spoken too prefer the Gemini. The Blammo may look very 'magic-box' like while the Gemni looks like a cage for the doves - thus a functional prop on stage. Personally, I think that the construction of the Blammo makes or break the illusion. A good depth illusion created and the overall look of the illusion are essential to make the effect look good. I have seen badly made Blammos. Chalet used to make one of the best in my opinion. From the performance stand point, I feel the Blammo has a greater visual punch especially if she is produced in a sitting position with the side to the audience, as opposed to squatting or trying to stand up. Jason Bryne does a very nice Blammo inclusive of some pyrotechnic enhancements. For the Gemini, I have seen several top performers present this and while flawless, I feel that there is always a slight awkard hesitiation during the execution of the transformation. And as the girl appears standing, I always felt a sense of her trying very hard to keep her balance which distracts from the appearance. I actually like Greg Frewin's cage to girl transformation/ production better for the instant/ no -hesitation look of the illusion. So, it really depends on how you want to utlize either illusion in your performance. If you are looking for a sharp, instant-looking production/ transformation of a girl, I would go with Blammo, especially if you can have a good one designed to fit/ match the look of your act. For example, I hope always that a crate-style designed Blammo would work great as a prelude to a crate-style sub trunk. If you are looking for a dramatic finish to a dove act, then go with the Gemini. Hope this helps. Best, J C
