I second what Dean says! Danny has always been great to work with and I hope he invites me back to his convention soon (though I don't know if we could ever top the double card to mouth thing with me and Hobson).
Congrats on being here Danny - see you soon! Simon |

I have a pretty good memory and don't recall ever seeing two VIP's step in to speak so well of a Guest of Honor.
Awesome! |

Hey Simon,
So far we have not repeated an act at LVMI, but who knows what the future will hold? ... your lecture was awesome and well deserving of the standing ovation you received (and the act with Hobson was priceless!!) ... ============================== Hey Randy, I'm thankful to know so many great people in this crazy business ... I showed my children some of the posts and they where amazed and very proud of their father ... and that is why I have such a HUGE smile this week ... I have my props with me for a gig later this week and I did a show for the family last night and some of the younger kids had no idea I did magic and they had a ball (as did I) ... PS I sent you Korean Recipes bookmark to my wife and I look forward to trying some new dishes ... we have a Korean restaurant in Denver we frequent and the food is awesome! ... |

I'll tell you what an honorable man Danny is. Some of you know about my opening line. Danny had been using it, not knowing that it was trademarked, thinking that it was a stock line, as many magicians do. I didn't know he'd been using it.
We were appearing at a convention in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I lectured on renaissance festival magic, and during the lecture I mentioned that I had written and owned the line. Danny did not use the line in his show that night. The next day, he mentioned to me that he had been using it, and wanted to know how he could get permission to use it. I told him that he had just done it. Danny, Oscar Muñoz, Gene Protas and Michael David Stanley are the only magicians who ever asked. Danny is aces in my book.

Thanks Bill,
I really appreciate your genorosity ... we have all used "stock lines" at one time or another, but we forget that someone originated that line at some point ... It's always best to try and come up with your own lines ... here is one example, I was explaining this concept to my daughter and said,"How can you make up a line". So we took the hoary old joke, "Why did the man throw the clock out the window"? ... we sat down and together we wrote a dozen new lines, some fair, some good and a few really funny ones ... Using that technique you can apply the method to your own act/scripts ... don't censure yourself, write everything down and then go oback and cull out the goood ones and then try and make them better ... |

Sue-Anne and I must add to the list and agree - having done lecture tours throughout the USA for Danny several times now - he is one of the most straight-up and honorable guys (or as we Aussies say "A TOP BLOKE") in magic.
Danny I hope you'll be at FISM this year! We can't wait to catch up again. TIM & SUE-ANNE

I'll fifth the fact that Danny is a really great guy to know. Through his Magicians Lecture Network, it was Danny who was responsible for bringing me to the attention of American magicians directly and the border crossing at Kingsgate indirectly ;-)
He's such an honest, up front and approachable guy who has time for everyone. He is also responsible for one of my favourite responses to the old question of, "So, what did you think of my act?" He is such a nice guy that when I told him my son was born on September 14th and I couldn't make it, LVMI promptly moved to June. Now he *says* it was going to move anyway. Coincidence? You decide. I do hear it's a really great convention........... Jon

Thanks Jon,
When we have the budget to fly over international acts we would love to have you at LVMI ... we had fellow Brit Mark Mason ths year and he rocked the house! ... Jon is an incredibly talented and creative performer and if you have the chance to see him, make sure you do ... I saw the lecture again last year and I forgot how strong his effects are ... Hope to see you at FISM Jon! |

Mega dittos... btw... how to change a stock line is a discussioin I had with Dai Vernon some years ago. He said he "hated" the line, when you ask someone to hold out their hand and replay, "No the clean one." (Which by the way was ORIGINATED by Walter Zaney Blaney!)...
So, with Vernon's suggestion the new answer that I came up with is... You look at the guy's hand, and say, "Did you have a flat tire on the way here?"

Hey Pete,
thanks for the credit for the Blaney line ... Off the top of my head I came up with, "The trick will go a lot better if your hand is holding a twenty" ... *** *** not appropiate for all situations ... |

I recently saw Gene Anderson do the signed bill to salt shaker and he used the line "Do you have anything larger than a $20? No? Well- this trick is A LOT more mysterious with a hundred"

It's been a real pleasure to read this thread.
I have only had a couple of pieces of written correspondence with Danny Archer and yet received on both occasions just the most polite, courteous and helpful responses. Far from just a quick few words, he took time not only to answer the queries I had raised in as much detail as he was able, but also to ask about me, and to include references to his own family, making the correspondence personal. It is always a pleasure to be able to acknowledge courtesy, kindness and gentlemanly behaviour in any circumstance - this is just such an opportunity! Best, *Magical Lady* |

Most people don't know this, but when you join the circle, you also are obligated not to use anyone else's material without their express permission. Since I had seen Walter do this line, I asked him for permission to use it. He granted it, but he added that he wasn't sure if he originated it or not. I NEVER use it with ladies. I do use it with little kids, though. If you do the line right, it can be very, very funny. And if you use the right kid, it won't embarrass him. Ideally, you need a kid who has just finished eating a turkey leg, or a kid who has just eaten a chocolate ice cream cone. Then you have exactly what you need.
