I have an idea for a gospel way of presenting this but I have a question and am hoping for some ideas that may help me.
The effect is a mentalism type of effect that has a spectator place one of 5 brass rods into a tube and screw on a cap. The 5 rods all have a colored gem recessed into one end (red, blue, green, white and gold). The performer always correctly announces which colored gem rod was placed into the tube. He can have his back turned or be completely out of the room when the selection is made and can still state which colored rod was selected. Ok so that's the effect, here is what I was thinking... I determine that they put in the: white or clear (diamond) gem, I say "there are those that have received cleansing of their sins and are now blameless before God symbolized by the color white for purity... you chose white! my question for you is, have you received cleansing from your sins? do you know what that involves?" I determine that they put in the: green (emerald) gem, I say "there are those that have a desire to grow in their relationship with God through prayer and study of His Word (the Bible) symbolized by the color green... you chose green! my question for you is, do you know God or have a relationship with Him?" I determine that they put in the: red (ruby) gem, I say "there are those that have their sins, all of their sins, forgiven and are forever part of the family of God because of what Jesus did for all of us on the cross, symbolized by the color red... you chose red! my question for you is, have you received Jesus as your savior and had your sins forgiven?" I determine that they put in the: gold (topaz) gem, I say "there are those that have heard about heaven and the streets of gold and just about everyone wants to end up there and see those wonders and then there are those that know for certain that they will see heaven symbolized by the color gold... you chose gold! my question for you is, do you want to see or go to heaven? do you know for certain that if you were to die right now, would you be going there ? Then we get to the blue gem and this I swhere I have the problem... I don't know what blue could represent to keep with the evangelistic theme I have going here. It's basically like doing the wordless book but using a mentalism prop to introduce the colors for discussion albeit in a random order! Any ideas? Or any thoughts, comments, feedback on the potential method I have come up with of doing the effect? I know it's kind of a straightforward approach but I just thought it might be a good way to get the important questions out on the table for discussion. Besides, since you can repeat the effect, you could hit on all of the above questions. Glen

Glen -
I use the color blue to represent the first sin or my sin, or sin in general. Adam or I or we, really "blew" (blue) it. Hope this helps. peace, phill

Just off the top of my sleepy head this morning I have a thought. The blue color could stand for the royalty of Jesus Christ. Born the Son of God, yet humbled himself to come to earth to die for our sins. Question are you a part of the royal family? Just a thought Jim |

Hi Jim,
Yes I am and would find it kind of awkward if I was'nt when asking some of the questions associated with my proposed presentation. I am curious why you ask but not hesitant at all in answering your question. The blue for royalty might work and I can try to figure out some stuff to say about it. Although is'nt purple more typically thought of as a color for royalty? Blue is close and might work, that is what I am looking for, something to say if and when blue is chosen. The "blew it" line is fun and all but I prefer not to use it as a sin representation (at least for now) because I hit on that subject with the white and red colors. Also blue is such a nice color, I was thinking of maybe a more positive association if possible. I just have'nt thought of one or heard of one that I really like yet. But thanks for the ideas so far and I hope more are to follow. As far as the presentation idea I am considering (I havent tried it out yet, just been working out the things to say for each color), what do you guys think? Is it too direct, are there any problems you see with it? I will post back what reactions I get when I try it out in this manner. I just need to have something for blue! Glen

Glen:
I read Jim's question as part of the patter, not a question directed to you. It simply was a question that ran parallel to the questions you ask for the other colors in the effect. Maybe I'w wrong, but that's how I perceived it. I use the color blue in my Rubick's Cube Die Box, but the colors represent Christ. WHen I mention the blue I talk about how Christ was "true blue" or loyal to the Father in that He always did the Father's will. I'm not sure if "loyalty" can be brought in here regarding salvation, as I would see it as more of a discipleship theme. As far as your question about the patter being too direct, I say that you have to know your audience. And sometimes it's more about how you say it than what you say! Terry

Terry, by golly I think you're right. After reading the reply again, I can see how he is following my previous patter and coming to a question for the spectator.
My bad but it's fine, just for the record you know... LOL I had an idea earlier this morning that went somethine like this: Did you know there are those (an entire generation) that will never face death, physical death? Those alive on earth (who have received Jesus into their hearts and lives) when He returns will rise up into the sky, the clear blue sky, and meet Him in the air as He continues on His way! This is symbolized by the color blue (sapphire) gem... you chose blue! My question for you is, will you be among those that fly up into the sky to meet The Lord should He return anytime soon? Or something like that... p.s.- Note on Rubiks cube, I HATE THOSE THINGS!! never figured out how to solve them! get it away, away. Glen

Glen-
That was my intention. I was only asking the questions as you were in your post. However I am glad that you are a part of the royal family because now I can call you my brother. God Bless you in your endeavor to create your routine. In Him Jim |
