Hello all,
Was just wondering whether anyone has tried making one of these. There are some posts on tiny rare earth gaffs in here. How about trying to gaff a pen with them to come up with your own? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks y'all

I made my own, lawrenceng, but I have to tell you that I made it after picking up the original from Jim Krenz. I still like the first version better than the ones that came after it.
I really wanted to do this at work, where everyone carries a marker provided by the main office. So I took one of these markers and made a custom pen through anything. With some small rope gaffs and a Dremel (tm) tool, you should be on your way. |

Thanks Carlos, my sentiments exactly, wanting to gaff a pen that I have which everyone else is carrying. Colleagues all use freebie pens given by pharmaceutical companes or health regions, so I am interested in gaffing one of these.
Thank you for sharing.
thanks y'all

You could also try looking for some of those little telescoping things that you use to pick up things that have fallen down into cracks. They usually have very strong ******* that are quite small and are round. You then just have to find a pen that will fit them!

Years ago I made a few because I didn't want to switch pens. I just used a couple of E. M. from Radio Shack and found they fit perfectly in the Bic with a bit of glue.
I just used the point of the pen and made it removable, and that left me with an ordinary pen.

I have made my own Pen Through Anything before. I don't use it, but it looks actually better than the marketed ones! I can e-mail you detailed instructions if you wish...

Oh yes those telescoping things are very powerful, pity I can't find them around somehow. Is there a way to fix it into a pencil?
Oh, and RegalFan, I would be interested too. Cheers! |

I made my own. I had been looking for a while to find gaffs that fit perfectly in a pen, and I found them at the dollar store. They're really strong, --stronger than the rare earth at Radio Shack. I found them on an earring type thing that emitted light. I figured I could make my own D'lite. That didn't work. I got a pen thru anything, though.
Actually they fit so well, I didn't have to use glue to hold them in. |

Also some Lego sets contain them. I guess my son's going to have to play with his Meccano now.

I made one using Sharpies. It worked great! I later found out that they market these and would have bought it instead of going to the trouble and mess! ($30 bucks, that's pretty cheap all things considered. Plus I got an extra tip!)
