I had much fun playing with Fusillade.
My questions are: 1) Have you ever performed forcing a slug of known cards, rather than memorizing people’s names? 2) Although Fusillade is a great act, I feel that it is best prefaced with a couple of other card effects before; otherwise Fusillade does not get appreciated as much as it should. I feel a progression (from few cards controlled to seemingly the whole deck is stronger.) What are your thoughts on this? 3) Is it more important to be a strong entertainer, than being a strong technician? 4) During Fusillade, do you use full deck false shuffles or do you stick to keeping a slug intact? Do you continously shuffle between revelations? 5)In the Aspen Bar Magic issue of MAJ, you outlined a very funny bit where a non-chosen card is made to "vanish". That was left out of Fusillade. Do you still do the bit? In the MAJ version, you would slap your hand on the "non-chosen" card. How would you handle it in a long table arrangement, in which the people at the far end cannot see the spot in front of you? Thank you, I really enjoy your ideas.

You have asked some provocative questions... thank you... It is 2AM and my son is still here with me, home from college... life has overtaken me once again.
I promise to give you some answers soon. He goes home tomorrow and life returns to a dull roar...

The name thing is too powerful not to do... it has been suggested to me to use the Aaronson stack... that is a great idea... but I am not sure that it is a great benefit to know the cards ahead of time... 2) Although Fusillade is a great act, I feel that it is best prefaced with a couple of other card effects before; Oh yes.. I agree... it was developed as a closer... however... that being said... there are times when I use it as a stand alone piece... at a banquet... with ten top tables ...this is the perfect piece for this ...and yes I memorize the table’s names... This is a perfect piece for this often awkward performing situation. 3) Is it more important to be a strong entertainer, than being a strong technnician? Absolutely... at the risk of repeating this phrase... the audience will not remember what you did (technically) they will remember how you made them feel (entertained) ... 4) During Fusillade, do you use full deck false shuffles or do you stick to keeping a slug intact? I occasionally shuffle during the revelation portion... as long as the shuffles don’t slow things down ...it is of the utmost importance to keep the pace going on this routine... otherwise it drags and their attention lags... 5) A very funny bit where a non-chosen card is made to "vanish". That was left out of Fusillade. Do you still do the bit? I think you are referring to the Allan Ackerman bit of pretending to put a card on the table covered with my hand... when I discover that the person hasn’t taken out a card and therefore doesn’t have a card, I lift my hand and say “that’s good because I don’t have one here either...” Yes I do it all the time... it is one of the high points of the routine... while it is an Ackerman idea... Eric Mead is the one who suggested that it would be perfect for the Fusillade routine. How would you handle it in a long table arrangement, I say that this is a killer and to watch closely... I try to rivet their attention to the table in front of me.. if they can’t all see... well... too bad... Hope this answers your questions... Fusillade is one of the strongest things in my repertoire.
