I just read this and couldn't believe it. It made me think, how could Copperfield outdo himself...maybe turn himself into a youth again? I hope he doesn't use it to make 'dead' pigeons, and flys come back to life!
Anyway, I guess it's worth 50 mil.... http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060815/od_u......rfield_1 Here is a portion of the article: Master illusionist David Copperfield says he has found the "Fountain of Youth" in the southern Bahamas, amid a cluster of four tiny islands he recently bought for $50 million (26.4 million pounds). "I've discovered a true phenomenon," he told Reuters in a telephone interview. "You can take dead leaves, they come in contact with the water, they become full of life again. ... Bugs or insects that are near death, come in contact with the water, they'll fly away. It's an amazing thing, very, very exciting." Copperfield, who turns 50 next month, said he had hired biologists and geologists to examine its potential effect on humans but he's not inviting visitors to swim in or drink from it just yet.

You know, folks have been saying that he looks "tired" at recent live shows. (Not that I wouldn't, if I had his schedule.)
Could it be possible that it's a long range set-up? Slight age makeup gradually introduced and worn at every live appearance over a period of years...think William Robinson/Chung Ling Soo. Then on his next special, he steps into the fountain and emerges YOUNG(ER)! Skeptics could test him as they wish and find nothing wrong with his skin or complexion, like a trick that leaves you clean and examinable at the end. I might be right. I might be raving. Who knows? I might be both. Dan/EARL |

Dan/EARL,
It is weird that you say that. I saw him in Knoxville in January. When they introduced him, I thought it was a joke, that they were using an imposter/stunt guy for something. Then I realize that it really was Copperfield. I have seen him several times, and this time he had REALLY aged. Funny you should mention that. I actually spent several minutes with him onstage so I had a close look. He just looked old..... Hmmm.....

I know what you mean, but I think he is just actually getting old.

It's tough to get old but the alternative is not good.

He is just getting old. I had the same impression when I saw him in May - "Wow, he is certainly starting to look like a 50 year old man"...it's not makeup, it called "age".

I'm thinking he found some young look alike. Going to use him in a show to turn young again. Maybe even have the look alike continue his career after he's gone.

I don't know what he has found, whether it be a true fountain of youth (which is doubtful, but there are stranger things that have surfaced in our existance), a look-alike, a good wrinkle cream, or just a body of water that the locals consider magical, but I'm sure he will find a way to utilize it.
Say, can anybody tell me where the fountain of youth legend first appeared? |

As to the Fountain of Youth, one popular legend has Ponce De Leon hearing the story of the Fountain from the natives of Puerto Rico and setting off to find it. Discovering Florida in the process. While it's true that De Leon was one of the first Europeans to set foot in the Americas, historians don't believe that he was truly looking for the Fountain of Youth.

I would so love a big Copperfield Special on Prime time Network TV!!!
It would briefly feel that all was right with the world again. Now if only David Blaine would drown himself alive in David Copperfield's water for 8 days we might really have something Baby Blaine? Was there not a rumor that Copperfield was going to make a baby? See...it all comes full circle. |

So in my case, I'd say- 1.The huge explosion that happened in the Tungus region of Siberia on June 30, 1908. 2.The sudden disappearance of Neanderthal man, which happened a LONG time ago. 3.pyramids of similar shape and position (in relevance to other nearby pyramids and star positions) being built in Egypt and South America and Central America at around the same time. Those are what I believe to be stranger than a fountain of youth. However, A fountain of youth would definately be VERY strange. |
