Hey guys.
I need a whole lot of fake blood for an upcomming photo shoot. Normally we don't use it, so I'm not sure where to pick some up (or make some) So if anyone can help me out with either where to buy it (I'm in Canada, and would prefer a local resource, but will buy American if that's all I can find) or has a good recipe for making it myself, I would really appreciate it. Thanks! |

For easy"er" clean-up I would go with Ben Nye.

There are many recipes. Please see:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=14 For stage use, we used Karo syrup (clear corn syrup), which has the right thickness. Add enough cornstarch to make it a bit opaque. Then tint with red food coloring and a bit of blue. It's the right color, thickness, and it glistens nicely. Other recipes from the haunter sites use chocolate syrup, cornstarch, food coloring. If you need a lot of blood, you really ought to make it. Stage makeup suppliers charge far too much! Yours, Paul |

I use a lot of the corn syrup blood, and you might want to try the dark as opposed to light. The light tends to pinken a bit as it spreads. Also adding a bit of bought blood (Even the cheap halloween stuff)can make it look really realistic (Most stage blood is too thin to look real, and the corn syrup too thick...I like a mix)
If you want stage blood with a bit of "clot" to it, or a particularly good blood to drool from the mouth, try canned blackberry pie filling. Has more of a red black look with clots. And it's tasty. Gwyd |

This is great! Thanks guys!
I've got a pretty good starting point now. It also sounds like this could be a tasty experience *L* I like the blackberry pie filling, add a little more 'gore' to the whole thing. I'll let you know when the results are in! |

One thing to remember is that it will stain your clothing and other peoples also because of the food coloring.

Yeah, I hate that part. Luckily the clothing isn't a big deal, it will mostly be a few rags from the vintage store, it's a zombie themed shoot. However I won't be wearing much (most likely a bikini or some lingerie) so I'm worried about staining my skin....I don't want to be red for a week! Any suggestions on how to not stain myself in the process?
