I have a great presentational idea for a vertical ashrah. However I need some know how about the form. Makng it ascend smoothly, and for the cloth to stay on the form till the moment. Any resources you can recommend?

I had an Asrah years ago and got rid of it. Too many issues. As Daniel Faith says, if you have a regular stage you perform on, go for it. Otherwise, you will end up with it sitting in your basement. Magicauction sometimes has Ashrah forms for sale, once you get this the rest is pretty easy to put together. Jim |

I too, was afraid for the longest time about the set up and rigging for the asrah illusion...until I actually did it. I had the illusion about 2 years before I ever performed it. Yes, you have to set up rigging, but in most places that is not a problem. Yes, you have to consider lighting but with a little patience that too is easily accomplished. We also used the mylar strip curtain which made this even easier.
Obviously, you cannot espect to go into a gymnasium or banquet hall and expect to do this illusion, but nearly any place where you have a front curtain, wings and a ladder it can be performed. If you plan ahead there's no reason not to try it. It does entail some extra set up time, but that was under 1 hour. Is it worth the extra set up time? Absolutely. Remember, most lay audiences have never seen this. A lady at my office saw a school show we did a few years ago and this was the effect she asked about. She specifically "remembered" seeing my assistant's head and feet extending from the ends of the cloth as she levitated, right up to the moment of the vanish! Of course, it didn't happen that way, but I'll never tell!!! |
